M7 grill install help needed...

Got a full set of M7 grills. Waiting for the middle grills to come in, went out to the car, thinking that these just fit in place like OEM parts, but no. Looks like Im drilling body parts etc. Not what I really wanted. But OK, moving on. Looking at the rears, I either need to pull the heat shield off or the whole bumper. Same for the fronts. I thought these were to be a easy install. Also, the instructions lead me to think that they fit over whats already in place? I dont like that so I want to remove the old and just use the new. Any issues with that? And lastly, no hole or accomidation for the front tow hook...??!!??!!!

Could use some help and direction from those who have done these installs. Starting to doubt the value of this, may put these up for sale....send me photos to convince me otherwise.

Thanks

I can only speak on the rear grilles. I too was disappointed that they were not direct replacements. and they are not a perfect fit. Even if you drill them perfect. I did remove the bumper and removed the OME grilles. Just remember measure twice drill once, or send them back and try another vendor.

Good luck

I have them on my front. I have the middle and upper and there was never a drill involved. Old one out, new one in.

Hi Katmeho....

Our grille is the best built best fitting aftermarket grille available for the MINI.
With that said expecting the part to fall in to place without some work is not
fair. The other point I like to make is that we are always available by phone
at any time, as we are at least 3 people in the office at any time during business hours. Call us and we will take the time to talk you thru the process
making the installation a breeze...

Thanks Peter, and I totally appreciate all of your support and help. I was looking to not have to bug you, as honestly, you guys mentioned this was a simple install and I feel a bit lame about having the reservations that I have....I thought things to be a bit more snap into place, and when I started, the only way that I can see to make sure I (person who works on computers for a living) get it right without messing something up is to take off the front and rear bumper...Im sure an experienced person could make this work easily without problmes...but myself...Im not so sure I can do it without breaking something in the stock materials...thus the post looking for those who have done this on thier own.

M7 has been nothing but great and I look forward to continuing to use your parts...

The front lower aero grill is in the design stage as we speak. We will make a announcment as soon as we know when they are on the way. We have not planned on maming any for the rear but now that you mention it those decals are a bit on the unworthy side. We will see what we can do about those as well.

Randy,

Good to hear the front is coming soon. Rear ones would also be great. My decals yellowed long ago so I took them off. I would love to have real rear grils.

removing the front bumper is really easy and doesn't take much time at all. don't be intimidated, just go slow and pay attention. you'll be glad you did as it makes the install of the grills alot easier, plus the removal of the middle slats & glue. on the rears, jack it up and you can bend the heatshields out of the way with no problems, just bend them enough to reach up inside to work. the rear plastic pieces pop right out. you should paint everything behind all your new grills (front and back) black before installing the new pieces. don't worry about the few, small holes you need to drill. as for your towhook, a dremel with a cutting disc slices through the metal super easily. home depot or lowe's sells rubber grommets for $2 that you can fit on the hole for a finished look. don't get discouraged. you'll love the new look and i promise you'll get remarks from others.

I would like to do the Ultimate grills, upper and middle, in black on my 2005 MC, but do they only fit the MCS? I thought the grills were the same on MC and MCS?

Any way to do this? UKSUV, I see ur going to try it, did u get any info about the MC grill install I should know? Thanks for the input!

I have the upper and middle grills and love them, I called Peter the day I was installing them cuz I didnt want to remove more than I had to and it takes a little time to do these but Peter is right they are the best made. The only problem I had was with my factory grill not wanting to come off so I pretty much broke off all the nipples that held it on to remove it.

My sig is misleading...have to work w/500 characters! The M7 x-treme hoodscoop and grills (AERO). But, I might go with M7 for those too is I can get a good price! Plus, you have to remember....it wil be mated with a ViS CF hood.
