Toggle Switches

I just ordered my new MINI. The only working switches will be the 2 windows and the locks. I don't like the idea of having a toggle, blank space, toggle, blank, blank, toggle. Are there dummy toggles I can buy or have installed at the dealer or something?

(I must admit I have a touch of OCD and I need everything to be neat and symmetrical )

You can buy a complete set of toggles. As I recall, you have to specify what other things they'll be for - ASC or DSC, things like that. I don't think it would hurt anything if you have the toggles and nothing there for them to connect to.

Then you could get a set of the stickers - ejection seat, tacks, machine guns - and you'd be set!

My opinion? Worry about that later. My MINI has 4 toggles...windows, locks, front fogs. I'm missing two. I just knew I'd want a full set of toggles, but rear fogs weren't available in early '03 so a full set was out of the question.

Funny thing happened though which resolved the whole thing....I started motoring. I quickly forgot about all my theoretical aesthetic qualms about toggles and got into the important things...the balance, responsiveness, and handling of a MINI. It's truly fantastic. Now I never, ever think about toggles at all...I like my MINI as it is, just the way I designed it.

That's my perspective anyway...

Face it, gokartride, you're just not OCD.

Kbeaner - you have two options.
1. Buy the full toggle rack from a dealer (Classic gives us 20% off)
2. Source three toggles, take apart your rack, drill and install them.

I did #1 for my car (added the rear fog, the rest were there.)
I did #2 for a friend of mine who was in your situation. Toggles go from $0 to $10 depending where you find them. The install isn't hard, though it's a bit nerve racking drilling that first hole.

Haha, I was thinking the same with mine. I couldn't afford adding everything, so I just ordered the rear fog (only $100) so that I have two outside and two in the middle. It is nice and symmetrical (toggle, blank, toggle, toggle, blank, toggle). Plus you can use the rear fog for those pesky tailgaters without using the brakes!

Once in awhile, you will find some members here are selling the whole toggle block. I just "completed" mine by filling in the only missing one switch I have last weekend.

In my case, a member here was selling the toggle, another one want to get the block and willing to part out the switches individually, so I got one switch, and I believe two other members here got their switches also. Keep looking in the Market Place section and good luck.

Does anyone know if these toggles can operate aftermarket Hella 500 lights?

I installed a pair but have not wired a switch up to them yet as I want to fill in my only blank toggle switch location with a factory toggle that would match the rest and operate the Hellas.

True, true....pity that. Everybody has their approach to these things , but I just found having a blank or two was actually a more honest, straightforward approach (and hence more desirable in the end) than having faux toggles that did absolutely nothing! I can see both perspectives, actually, I just went with one that fit better with my youification program.

gokartride -
Hey!!:impatient :impatient
They're REAL toggles. But they are faux (nice French, BTW) switches.

RonP -
Check with Ian Cull (GBMINI on NAM) or ZMINI (MCAW circuit) - either one may be able to utilize their modules to have a toggle switch your lights.

I'm going to Irvine MINI tomorrow to have them check my drivers seat so I'll hit up the parts dept and ask them about the lights and their toggle switches.

The dealer said you can only buy the toggle switches as a complete unit, no individual switches available, and he wanted $180 for the set. OUCH!

So, looks like I'll need to find my own toggle switch to throw in the open space.

Call Classic MINI - with the NAM 20% discount it's closer to $75, if that helps (it's been a while, I don't recall the exact price.)
