Interior/Exterior Euro Parcel Shelf fit

Euro Parcel Shelf fit
I picked up my new MINI tonight and immediately installed the shelf when I got home. (That's like, oh, 2 hours old and already ripping chunks of interior out.) It seems as though the fit is a bit off against the downpipe - as if the edge of the shelf structure should be carved out to fit the curve of the pipe. Anyone have this issue?

I had installed a parcel shelf in my '02. I saved the knee bolster and returned it to stock before I sold it, thereby keeping the parcel shelf for use in my '05. Unless I'm losing my mind, the parcel shelf I have from the '02 does NOT work in the '05. I realize the dash was changed, but I didn't realize how much changed. Can anyone else confirm this? ...Or did I just "forget my Ritalin" the day I was trying to do the install? Thx.

Mine fit snug as posted above, but it was not difficult to slip into place at all and I didn't feel the need to trim any bits. Total time including taking out the old panel, putting in the shelf and cramming it full of useless stuff was only 10 minutes.

I just installed my parcel shelf last week. The only issue I had was getting the screws to line up with little blue anchors because the anchors wiggled around too much. With the shelf in place, I couldn't see to get the screws lined up in the hole on the anchor. Oh well, it seems pretty secure with it just snapped into place - I don't think it's going to go anywhere . .
The fit along the downtube looks decent, though.

I taped them in place with blue painter's tape and then punched a small hole (smaller than the diameter of the screw tip) in the tape where the screw goes.
I then threaded one screw, the right one since that side is the tightest fit, into the shelf and then slid the bottom of the shelf into the slots and slowly raised the right side of the shelf while looking at where the screw tip was in relation to the hole in the tape. I was able to adjust as I went and because of the contrast of the blue and the hole, it was verrrry easy to align everything. Once the screw tip reached the hole in the tape, I pushed the screw into the tape, which now will hold the screw, reached down for the torx driver (no need to bring along your 3rd arm and hand ) and proceeded to tighten the screw until the flanges on the shelf were place and pushed them in.
The left side is even easier as there are no flanges to mess with.
