My interior is Anthracite and the stock steering wheel looks out of place with the silver colored plastic pieces on the spokes and that ring around the hub (not to mention the silver bezel ring around the tach, but that's another issue).

Does anyone know if these pieces are simply painted on? If so, would the color of the underlying plastic be black? If these pieces are just painted black plastic pieces, I wonder if anyone has stripped the paint off them and polished the plastic for a high gloss black look. The black is preferable to me than the silver.

Can anybody provide any feedback on this proposed mod? TIA

 

I am pretty sure that it is a piece of trim. There is a JCW steering wheel with a CF insert. It would be pretty hard to paint CF! lol. That being said, I believe its a piece of silver trim, and not painted on.

(You could paint is glossy black though!)

 

I had done a search here and read that someone had accidentally scratched the silver paint off one of those plastic pieces on the steering wheel. Maybe that was on an earlier model year.

Yeah, I'd hate to paint it black as that will eventually wear off. Boy, it sure would be great if someone made those pieces in black plastic, or better yet, in Anthracite color to match the interior!!!
