Attaching stuff to the back of the tach?

Question:

How does one go about removing the tach so that gauges or brackets can be attached, and what size screws are required? Also, is removal of the tach nesessary? It looked like, even with the wheel all the way lowered, there wouldn't be room back there toget a screwdriver in.

Just curious... I'm considering adding gauges and/or a MP3 player bracket in there, and wondered how much hassle it is to get working space.

I saw that thread... All that it says about what I'm asking (unless I missed something) is:

"To install the boost gauge mounting cup, you need to remove the tach, which is pretty easy! For security, unplug your battery. And remove the 2 screws holding the tach to the steering column. Then, unplug the connector behind it."

Where are those screws? Are they beneath a cover? I don't remmeber seeing them, and wonder if I need to dissassemble the steering column to reach them.

Lower the colum all the way then use a torx-25 to remove the screws (don't loose the washers!!) Then slide it out and unplug the connector.

No need to disassemble anything, no cover, just use the tilt control of the wheel.

Hope this clears it up.

Just to help clear up motor's reply - there is no cover, once you lower the steering wheel......and while standing outside the car (between the opened door and body of car) look down through the windshield between the tach and dashboard; you'll see the 2 screws holding it down.

As far as what size screws to use to attach the bracket; they are common sheet metal type screw, just be sure that they don't extend too far into the tach. The OEM ones fit into the receesed area on the back of the tach and a bracket would hold the new ones "proud". I also used a little piece of the soft velcro to provide padding between the bracket and tach.

I moved my Roady up there, great spot!

Yeah, I was looking at it last night and saw what you're talking about. Now I just need to decide exactly what I want to mount up there... Thanks, guys!

No need to lower the column...remove two torx screw from back of tach that faced down and attached to the column...lift up the tach assembly and then you can reach the two screws at the back...this is where I attached my home made bracket...

Hey, Misfit, do you remember how far apart those holes needed to be to match up with the mounting holes?

Mine are spaced at approx 2 & 3/8 inches. I'll be able to get a better reading when I get back to the garage.

Misfit is another member But I know you're asking Msfitoy...the best thing to do is to take a piece of printing paper place it against the back of the tach then use chalk or pencil and do a rubbing...you can use this as a template
