Thanks for all the love guys!

It's a keeper - the gang down at the dealership even liked it!

I love that black scoop and think it'd look great on my PW/B.

BUT, I'm mod-impaired - would that be hard for someone with no experience of removing/adding car parts? And where do you find something like that, or just have to look for other folks selling theirs?

It's really easy to do....im mechanically challenged as well....I purchased my scoop in primer from the MINI dealer and had it painted. "mini- black"...total cost < $100....easy as pie to install.....

Sounds like the inspiration for another "club".....

"contrasting colored hood scoop club"

I don't think you're mod-impaired! I just think you haven't tried it

Start with some thing easy, say................... an intake or maybe a pulley and then move to the tough stuff

No really, in all seriousness - you've got to start somewhere! I wasn't born with a ratchet in my hand - trust me I would have heard about it

After my first attempt at modding (took a hammer to a battery charger when I was 18 months old - or so the story goes) I was given additional supervision and guidance in the proper mod methods; hammer bad. It didn't take long for the lesson to sink in either

This is where I think our local MINI clubs are dropping the ball, ours included. There are so many owners that have the knowledge yet so few attempts at sharing it. In the past we've had pulley / mod parties at my place and at a few others across the state to help owners learn how to do there own work, but as the ownership dynamic changes so do the events held. Honestly - I could careless about driving in the middle of a gaggle of cars up and down the roads; but if you want to come over; grill up some flesh, drink a cold one (hard or soft) and twist a wrench - come on over!!

Now back to your questions - Easy mod - 4 nuts (10mm) and the old one comes out. Push up on the 2 lower studs first to help get it started. Drop the new one is and tighten make sure the center clip snaps in place and then install the 4 nuts. No torque is called for, and watch how tight you go as the studs are only held in by plastic, I used a little thread lock to make sure the nuts don't back off. The hardest part is not dropping something onto/into the engine while working, a twin sheet spread out makes for a nice catch all.

I got it from the market place right here on NAM. Made a request and got it

Good luck

Hmmm June 10th - I was sleeping off the effects of flying all night on Friday/Sat morn so that I could do it again on Monday. Yup sometimes work does get in the way of having fun. Glad we've got the PowerBall now - might not have to work much longer

I saw that event and while it's great, I just think there should be more of them. And when I said "our club" I was also pointing a finger at myself, since it's been more then a year since I had a "mod day" for all club members at my place. I did however have a few friends over the other weekend and we tinkered a bit - drive belt change, struts and springs & PS fan guard.

I am doing the same with my PS/B S, but I am adding a black checkmate style swoosh, sort of the inverse of the factory option....
