Interior/Exterior Interior silver paint? touch up paint for scuffs?
#1
I tried to find the best forum to post this question in and since it refers to the interior I hope it is appropriate.
My question to any of you is, do any of you know if it is possible to get some touch up paint for the silver interior? Since my garage is small it is hard for me to get in and out of my MINI properly..lol So I have accidentally scuffed off a small area of the paint under the left speaker ring

Happy to hear I am not the only one..hehe and I very careful in my MINI..err
I have thought about "other" silver paints, but I am too picky to to use a color that isn't a match. I would think that it would be possible to get a little bit of touch up paint since the silver paint is fragile anyway since it isn't laquered w/ a clear coat or impregnated into the plastic. It still baffles me why that on some parts they put a clear coat on, and others that get more contact from passangers and the driver they don't. I can gather to cut cost maybe, but not durable in the long run. I suppose I could do like some of the mini2 people have done, and take it to a paint ship or diy and paint on a clear coat to protect the paint from future mishaps..

OK ... so, I tried a half dozen diferent Silvers - made colour chips for German aircraft, and USAF, and Santa Fe Passenger loco, ... a lot to choose from - and a couple look pretty close ... but just not quite there ...
After calling the dealer this morning - and finding that they have no interior touch-up paint - i'm off to the hobby store to try the next batch ...
Any other ideas out there??

My problem is the material itself is bad, the plastic. It's way too soft. I've got fingernail dents around my cruise control buttons and around the silver ring in the middle of the steering wheel. This is the only spot I'm having issues with...so perhaps an aftermarket aluminum or carbon fiber option could "solve" my problem.

>>ok,R, that's a whole different issue ... Why Would Anyone Want 'Cruise Control' On A MINI?!? ... you need to be at one with you baby to enjoy the Total Motoring Experience ... both hands, both feet ... wait - my glasses are steaming up ...
I agree! But it comes with these cool radio controls. And once in a blue moon you may want the cruise if you are on an interstate with "man".

Well Roy you'll be happy to know that although the impact marks are located around the cruise and center ring, it's not due to using the cruise, it's due to aggressive cornering. Hands flailing about trying to turn the wheel as fast as possible.
But I agree about using the cruise around Fuzz.

Turtle Wax makes a colored car wax that comes w/ a matching touch-up stick, but they don't recommend in on vinyl or plastic, only for the metal body. They have a silver that looks pretty close to that of the MINI. My interior is okay so far, but my bumper has some scuffs which won't come out. I was tempted to try it but when I read the warning about the vinyl, I decided to pass. Anyone else used this product?

The best way to get a color match is to remove one of the trim pieces and take it to an auto paint store. They can do a near perfect match if they have the color right in front of them. Some stores can laod this paint in a spray can for the average home user. Refininshing the parts is the only way to get it to look good. I am going to wait on mine until it's bad enough to make it worth the hassel.

I would love some aluminum trim (brushed and clear coated) for the doors, dash, and wheel.
It's a bit plasticky on the inside, not Nissan or Dodge plasticky, but still some authentic aluminum trim would go a long way.
Just waiting for someone to offer true replacement pieces, not just stick on cover ups.
