Whoa, that's stunning The grill matches perfectly with the U stripes.

Question, is there space left over where the grill moves around and scratch the paint on the back edge of the scoop?

^^ there is some minor play, but it shouldn't be so loose that it would
move around. the scoop is plastic so it won't rust, but if you're real
****, you can wrap some e-tape on the scoop's lip from the inside
(diverter side) and protect it that way.

i just left mine alone and installed the grill.

Dude, that silver looks great how it blends with the "Swoop". Now I'm thinking I might try and re-do mine...

This how-to is for any one who would like to use it. It is not the best, but it gets the job done.

First lay out your tools. You will need:
8mm Socket
Phillips Screw driver/Drill
The pre-cut grille
Some kind of container for the nuts/screws is recommended
Oh, and your MINI.

Second, open the bonnet and locate the 8mm nut on the under side of the hood. There is one on each side. Remove them both.

Third, locate the philips screw about 18'' down from the nut you just removed. There is 1 on each side. Remove them both.

After both nuts and both screws are removed, the...well....rear of the hood scoop will fall right out.

Take a look at the opening in the scoop. There is a little ledge that will hold the grille.

Grab you pre-cut grill, and pop it in! It doesnt have to be REALLY snug, just "in there."

After its in, just re-install! After you're done, it should look like this:

Might want to put a large towel over the "COOL" engine to catch the nuts/bolts if you happen to drop one..this is a REALLY nice trick

-side note, what if a rock hits the grill and it pops into the engine bay..is there any change of it causing problems or will it be "trapped on the SC"

Bruce, the towel idea is a very good one that I use.

I wouldn't worry about it comming loose. Even if it does, I doubt it will go anywhere.

But....Worst case scenario, a boulder pushes it into the engine bay. I dont think it has room to effect anything. It might restrict some airflow over the IC, but thats it.

No, thank you

I used the ratchet to loosen the 8mm nut but I tightened it by hand. With the socket and extension piece of course. I was afraid of stripping the nut if I used the ratchet. Anybody have problems with the nut loosening up over time? How about the screw?

Those certainly do have a finished look to them. Any idea as to what amount of intake reduction is occuring due to the restriction ? On a side note how the hell are you guys selling on NAM without a vendor agreement LOL .

i recommend using a small dab of threadlock (blue) if you're worried.
i recommend retorquing the nut when you check your oil level, etc.
as ive seen some cars with those nuts missing (fell off).

but the phillips screws, don't over tighten. the holes will strip very
easily.

From the posts that ive read, there was no measureable amount of
air flow loss.

i sold it in the market place...but only a small handful. i don't have
enough time to mass produce it like if i was selling at a shop commercially.
it was fun though and i enjoyed making them. it's very cool to see the
picts.

Thanks to all for the info on this little DIY mod, here is my newly finished scoop grill, I got sick of having to get the tweezers out and pick out little rocks and debris from the intercooler

Mine still looks great as well. This is probably my favorite mod that I've done so far. A great look for next to nothing.
