Cup Holder ???

Which one of the two cup holders that the Mini Parts Department offers is the best and why. Is there a best place to mount it?
Thanks

The 2 that I know of are the metal/plastic that sits high on the downtube near the radio and one (called cup-link) that clamps on the downtubes under the toggle switch panel and sits much lower.

I've had my MCS for 6 weeks now and mine came with the metal/plastic cup holder. It has a mounting plate that sits at the top of the downtube. You essentially take the top 2 screws out and then the cup holder plate is placed at the top of the downtube and then the 2 screws are re-installed. I do not like this cup holder. I had to remove it from my MINI.

I ordered the Cup-Link. It was originally designed and sold by a company called MINI-FINI. This one is much cooler since you can actually remove the cup holder part from the plastic downtube clamp. MINI-FINI is also working on other cup-link devices like ipod and cell phone holders. They will use the same downtube clamp that the cup holder uses.

Plus from what I have seen the cup-link is not as expensive as the metal/plastic one.

Here is a review of the cup-link from MotoringFile. http://www.motoringfile.com/2003/08/...up_link_system

Hope that helps.

another alternative

I like this one

It does not sit on the down tube - but is very sleek looking metal

on the down side it is expensive and doesn't hold a Big Gulp

Depends on each individual's taste. I prefer the Mini-Fini one and my wife prefers the metal/plastic one that comes on the '05s and '06s. To me, the Mini-Fini is more stable and firmly holds my morning coffee better. I worry going around turns with the other one.

Cup holder...

I know that I am not going to be popular with this, so here I go.

Do you know why the cup holders in the MINI suck? Because it is a car built by Germans! On the autobahn there is no reaching for your morning coffee while traveling @ 130 MPH! It is just not done. I have a no drinks in the MINI rule, with only one exception, bottled water. It goes in the cup holder behind the arm rest.

Just my $.02
