Glad that the flying tip didn't cause a traffic accident. For want of a more aesthetically-pleasing exhaust tip...

I'll have to rememeber that one.
Sorry to hear about the tips. I bet a local service station would tack those into place for....oh less than $20. Theres a local conoco service station that would do it almost for free. He's a really nice guy.

My Outmotoring tips have been on for a couple months with no problem, installed per the instructions.
BTW and not to be a know-it-all, star washers are used to provide good electrical contact at a fastener, not to keep it from coming loose. Nylocs are the best if it's not too hot. Loctite can also be removed by heat. A keps nut (flanged and grooved underneath) is pretty good. All metal lock nuts are available and can withstand heat. Split lock washer do next to nothing as they are a flat washer when torqued down.

Any chance I can get a set of tips like yours for getting it?
And thanks to everyone else for hints on how to install the things properly. If only I'd known beforehand. Right now I'm sporting a set of classy 1" steel tips. Hey, at least I'm not pretending to have more than I got. If I do anything to replace the stock tips, I think it'll be with a full aftermarket cat-back.
Oh, and for those that mentioned it, I don't think the tip that fell off actually bounced off of the front of the car behind me. At the very least no one stopped to threaten me. Probably a good thing - I hate to think what a new Porsche bumper costs..

Put my OEM chrome tips on today at lunch... took about 10 mins, 3mm allen wrench and used some blue locktite....
Didn't use the bracket though... that thing is pretty much useless... just took off the old tips, loosen up the new screws a bit, put a few drop of the blue loctite on the upper threads, shoved the tips on the exhaust pipe and allen wrenched then down as hard as I could.
I read somewhere that loctite start curing as fast as 1 hour to 24 hours max, depending on weather conditions...
I will check them out over the next few days to make sure they are all good.. wish I had a tac welder...
