I actually always liked this MOD because it's 100% invisible until you actually open the door... Then it's like "Wow!" from everyone around. thanks for the link- the tech behind it is actually kind of interesting I think. Of course, I can never do this on a cabrio, but I'd actually consider it on a tin top. Does anyone know if such a mod affects the sealing ofthe door or windows? As cool as it is, I wouldn't do it if it affects the integrity of the seals.
EDIT:
Oh, you CAN do it on a cabrio!

I wonder how it works when the top is closed? That roof overhangs the window glass...

According to other things I'm seeing on the LSD door hinges, they apparantly mount right into your existing door bolt holes, and require no cutting, welding or anything else. They work by first opening out like a standard door and THEN pivoting upwards afterwards. That explains how they'd work on a cabrio. They're certified to be as safe as the original door mounting by the German government (or so the manufacturer claims).
I have to admit, I'm hellishly intrigued, as the install seems dead simple and seems to have no negatives - it even looks reversible if you go to sell the car later and the buyer doesn't want the vertical doors (although why they wouldn't is a mystery - this is really cool). The only thing that worries me is that, when open, it sort of looks like the door is half blocked. In that shot above, for example, does anyone know if that's fully open? If so, it's somewhat in the door opening, isn't it?

Be aware unlike most other cars, the MINI hinge doesn't unbolt. You have to grind it off the car. So this mod is not easily reversed like on most cars. Also this kit appears to be one where the doors only open about 45 degrees. Actually pretty tough to get in and out. There is at least one MINI kit that the doors open a full 90-100 degrees. I don't recall which but it'd be a easy NAM search on lambo.
The kit I'm thinking of even allows just swinging the doors normally all the way too.

EDIT - Wow... you actually have to cut away a significant portion of the fender as part of this as well... So much for "simple installation". This is certainly NOT reversable. Thanks for posting those instructions!

It is correct that the hinges need to be cut off, and probably the fenders
will need to be rolled. That is why you must relocate your washer bottle.
It is important that you get a quality kit, as I have seen a lambo door
ripped off it's hinge in the wind because of the cheap universal kit that was
on it. This looks like a pretty good kit: http://www.lsddoors.com/

Of those kind of kits LSD is probably the best. They've even safety tested them. The doors swing out and then up but you do loose about a quarter of the outward swing. They use a gas cartridge so that has to be replaced every couple years. Also LSD is owned by the people who also own, KW, ST Suspensions and Belltech.
