Types of driving lights

Hello... I am wondering if anyone can share what types of driving lights they have and if anyone knows if one can use the Piaa black magics on a mini 05S?

That's the Hella Black Magic. You can definitely install those on a MINI. Others have. They are BIG, though.

I'm a fan of the PIAA 520 SMR, myself.

I'm going with the Hella Optilux "Angel Eyes" lights, m'self... I have them - just waiting for Outmotoring's August MODfest to install them onto the PIAA "madness"-type brackets. Can't wait!

I've seen the 540s on cars and they look good, too.

thanks... I have been staring at Hella and Piaa.. all night deciding which to get... still not sure.. The only thing I know so far is that I want fog lights, so do you know if both the Magic and 540s can be fog? :impatient

If you mount them down low, I don't see why not.

Aaron over at Outmotoring has a great sale on these really beefy lower-mount brackes right now:

These mount right to the aluminum frame behind the front bumper and are VERY stable from what I can see. Just angle them downwards after mounting...

Don't forget the Cibie Tangos - they look a lot like the OEM lights but with lots more light; they're sorta hard to find but that ain't bad either

If you're going for four, check out the ALTA kit. That's what I plan on getting later. But...the four lights arn't for everyone! I'm not sure how well the lights perform (IPF), but they kit is $400 for the light bar and 4 lights. And you can get them in yellow for you fog light needs.

The 540s are the cheap little ones. The 520s are the real deal.

That's what I have on my MINI, solid and good looking, they light up the night good enough for my needs.

You can also do the ALTA kit with only two lights, like I did.

I LOVE the 4-light bar - makes the car look very "rally ready". Unfortunately, I live in a state that requires a front plate, and the missus like the look of the lights when mounted up high... Good luck, man!

Hey, I've never ran a plate on my car...nor has my friend, my brother, etc. with no problems from the law. I also have illegal tint...

Screw the plate, it makes the MINI look HORRIBLE, imho. I would ditch it.

Do you mean Hella Black Magics?? I have 4 mounted with the outmotoring mounts and they are very solid.

not a huge PIAA fan myself, i had 2 relays go up in smoke and a buddy also has one do the same.... :( this was with PIAA bulbs supplied with the kit, not some crazy overwatt deal....

I have a square set of hella 550s on my beater scooby, and have just purchased a set of hella FF1000s for my MINI. Picked them up from rally lights.com for $90 plus shipping. (don't forget to order the clear stone shields as well....$12 each).

Only issue is they don't fit right on the PIAA (similar to OEM) brackets. Needs a little more room in the back. So, mod the brackets a little, and it's big light time!

I have Hella FF200 fog lights on Out Motoring brackets. I added some Nokya yellow bulbs for better fog performance.

The Alta kit does work with cars that have front license plates, (like mine), only if you mount the two outer lights only. I had to omit the two inner lights from the kit. Luckily, Alta only charged me for the lights I could use, versus paying for the whole kit (4 lights).

Besides, I have customized license plates too, so I actually don't mind having a plate in the front, and on top of that, I'm all legal in NY...
