New Magnetic Meatballs from Cooperflags
I did my first track days a week ago and couldn't bear to just mark my number on the door with painters tape, so I called Ed at Cooperflags. He helped me with materials choices and I finally gave him the following instructions and let him fill in the rest...
1. Two 14-inch circle magnetic meatballs for the doors (you want 10-12 inch-ish high numbers)
2. Two 6-inch circle magnetic meatballs for the bonnett and boot (just for fun)
3. Black Carbon-fiber background (I wanted dark, but not pure black)
4. Metallic silver or brushed metal numbers (It needed contrast on the black, but not snow white... that would clash with PW)
5. The numbers should be of a simple, sans-sarif font (see the 'flipping' idea, below)
My wife chose the number "86" from the rules I gave her... that she could only use the digits 1, 6, 8, 9 and 0, so that a new set of numbers could be used with a 180 degree flip (ex: my "86" turns into a "98" by rotating the meatballs). If someone else shows up to the track with 86 in permanent vinyl or paint, I could still use my magnetic meatballs... not as much flexability as individual numbers, but at least I doubled my odds.
Ed did a great job and chose a typeface that works perfectly for my 180 degree rotation plan. The numbers are big enough to be easily readable and he added a cool little silver trim ring around the outside. Kudos to Ed! I must have traded 8-10 emails with him before ordering to ask questions about materials and choices... he definately earned his money on this job and they look (and worked) great!
These were a full custom order, but Cooperflags does regular meatballs as well: http://www.cooperflags.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ID=89
I've gotta credit ImagoX for the idea about the little meatballs (Sweedish? ). He did it before me with black numbers on a white background for his Hot Orange 'vert. Very nice.

Sometimes I double-post... once on the MetroplexMini.org to show the local club folks and again on NAM to reach the larger community.
Also, Ed at Cooperflags gives a lot to the national MINI community and sponsors events at the Dragon and such... I like to waive the flag for business that support the community whenever I can... especially when they do stellar work like this!
