Would anyone else like the mirror to just be a mirror? Yanno what is the purpose of a 1/2" thick black plastic surround?

How about small, unframed, day/night mirror that is black?

OR How about a small convex mirror? (would be tough at night though)

Just thinking out loud. I would be interested in a mirror. I feel like I am driving a mini school bus sometimes.

Rats!! I thought when I saw this thread active in my User CP that maybe a vendor had come up with a solution. I guess not. I don't want to mess up a bunch of other stuff but the mirror is a hazard!

I have a 2004 with an older, manual, smaller mirror and wish to swap it for an autdimming mirror. I have read the threads and have identified how to remove a 2005 larger mirror from the car but am unable to find the process to remove the older, smaller mirror from my 2004? Will there be wiring for the autodimming power in the headliner?

Thanks!

I doubt it.
I was however able to pull the mirror apart and move the keyfob receiver up into the headliner of my cabrio - so now I'm able to quickly pull the mirror off when I'm driving the twisties (and not have to worry about any wires).

This is the aftermarket Lotus Elise mirror which I think was discussed here on NAM before. A small, 4" oval. Looks like it mounts with just two screws so adaptation might not be too difficult. Seems pricey at $110 but I would think a vendor here could come up with something like it.

What's the movie where the rear view mirror is torn off to the saying "What's behind me... doesn't matter" ? Maybe one of the early Steve McQueen movies, I don't know.

I want a smaller mirror and, when it's warmer out, am going to try something. I just don't want to freeze in my car trying to figure it out.

The best idea I've seen so far is to remove the OEM mirror, tuck the sensor back up under the headliner, and fashion a block-off plate (neatly painted or upholstered, of course), then purchase a windshield-mounted smaller mirror. They're not as pretty, but they're one-bolt removable, smaller than OEM, and can be adjusted high out of the way while still being functional.
