im not worried about the airbag going off, im gonna take great care of this car, and i can drive well, so ill be able to avoid it
Just be careful, Jess. Seriously. I am a good driver and I am VERY concientious. But since I started driving I have been in a few accidents that were in NO WAY my fault. Sometimes you can't avoid something happening to you. I have been rear ended....which you can't avoid sometimes. It doesn't matter how good a driver you are. Just remember that most of the other people out there AREN'T good drivers.

And you guys made a funny!

All it takes is one moron who talks on their cellphone while driving, and your airbag gets to prove it's worth.

i see your points guys, but i still wouldn't worry about it becoming a projectile. if it does it will be fired toward the ceiling/roof given the fact that it hinges up and fires at about 100mph. it is a concern that is duely noted, however i doubt it should raise much concern. the thing weighs about... i dunno... 1/10 of a pound and is plastic. if it does somehow fire in a forward path it will be about as bad as being hit with a wiffle ball. in the event of an accident i'd be more concerned about THE AIRBAG when it smacks you in the face at 100mph. whiplash/airbag burn = the suck.

i think it's a very cute idea.

It does'nt have to have too much mass to mess up your day.
Imagine a toothpick being jammed up your nose at mach 10.

The last accident that I was in the car in front of me locked his brakes
at 50 mph, he swore that a squirl was in front of him. I told his that
he did a super-job of saving the squirl and we can both think about him
as we walk to work from now on. As we were sharing an ambulance on
the way to the hospital, they asked us if we were on any medication.
It took him about 4 minutes to describe the host of pills that he was
on. When he finally finished, I said "by the way, what color was the squirl?"
He told me that it was purple. I am not making this up.
Good luck with your vase !! lol

i don't mean to laugh at your misfortune, but that was a really funny story.

hey all. ok first off you all are missing the point. i didnt want to start a forum on the airbag, i could find better things to talk to about, safety is not one of those topics. i was merely pointing out that i put a bud vase in my mini with yellow flowers to match the exterior yellow. thats all the point of the pics were, not about the airbag and how its such a horrible place for the budvase. dont worry, i wont have any of you in the passenger side. so dont worry about your lives. i still love the thing regardless of what everyone tells me.
yes im very stubborn

I dig the flower vase. I would totally do it. but I woudl contect it to one of the pillars maybe or near the drivers side like the vw. or on top of the dash. It just a horrible idea to put it on the airbag though,, I wish mini had put the airbag on top of the dash like i've seen elsewhere but since they didn't you should keep it clear, I mena woudl you rather have a vase or deal with potenital fatal , yes fatal injury. That being said.. i lvoe the mod if you ceom up with any other great idea plaease post them, allways great to see a new mod! oh btw coudl you post where you got the piece and how you did it maybe??!

you can get it at http://www.rspeed.net

anyway, like i have said, it's not going to be fatal, it's not even going to be a problem. trust me. i know you won't believe it, but i have examined this thing very closely since i will be the person in front of the airbag and i value my safety. call me an idiot if you like, but i am 100% certain it is in a safe location.

I hate to beat a (soon to be) dead horse here but this thread is really frightnening. minibear's insistence that she is such a good driver that no airbag will ever deploy is simply so bizarre that I can't even dream up a comment for it.

Somewhat less disturbing is Bmorezx3's terribly inaccurate trajectory projections. First, since the panel hinges upward, the vase would be fired directly at the passenger. If the panel swung downward, the vase would again be fired directly at the passenger. And if the panel was hinged on the left side, the vase would still be fired directly at the passenger. Not left, right, up, down -- directly rearward.
Second, at 100mph, it would indeed inflict serious injuries but that's neither here nor there since the actual speed will be closer to mach 1. The fact that the vase is plastic simply means that it will disintegrate as it passes through your body creating a much larger exit wound.

once again i must stop, take a breath, and respond.

plese don't insult my or minibear's intelligence. just because you OWN A CAR does not make you an expert.

now back to the topic at hand. the vase can be bought for $10 at http://www.rspeed.net it only took like three days to ship. i think it adds a nice touch and is very cute. not something i'd do, but it's nice for a girl. thanks to all that complimented

and thanks ahead of time to all those who just want to rant and be know-it-alls for shutting the hell up.

hugs + kisses

I tried to stay outta this one but being a self proclaimed airbag expert on this forum, I had to chime in.
Having PURPOSELY deployed 12 various airbags, I suggest Bmorezx3 wear a full face safety helmet every time he sits in the passenger seat.

I'm not going to get into the physics of it all, but any object in the path of the airbags, regardless if 5 grams or 5 ounces, is a projectile. Just remember...
pounds per square inch.

Call me whatever you want, EXPERT or POST *****, I just had to bring in an "experienced" voice of the matter.

Now back to the topic, yeah, it's a cute vase and flowers!
Have a nice day!

Since I started this mess I thought that I too would say that I like the vase. Adds something very personable to the interior. If you look at the image below from Rspeed they mounted it righ behind the wiper stalk. Something to think about
