What is the difference between the 3-piece dash kit and the 5-piece dash kits?

2002 to 2004 MINIs have the 5 piece dash. 2005 and 2006 MINIs have a 3 piece dash. The change was made due to the relocation of the passenger air bag.

 

The 5 piece kits are for the older Mini's......not exactly sure on the year, i think up to early '04, but its usually the dash's that say "airbag" on the passenger side...the side ac vents are separate dash pieces (making 5 total) in later yrs this is one piece (making only 3).....maybe someone more mini'fied than I can chime in here with more correct info or better explain.....

btw, My '05 MCS (production date 9/04) only has 3 pieces for its hyper blue dash...
