New interior look... (Anthracite vs Silver)

I have replaced some of my silver interior with Anthracite and love the way it looks. So far I have replaced downtubes, ashtray, shifter ring and cup holder.

Anthracite

Silver

Ive done the same thing. My dash is next as well as the side panels. Hate Silver, too bad they didnt offer Antracite when I ordered my car.

What about the silver front door pulls?

Anybody remove them and paint them?

For the Downtubes you can remove and paint the silver ones with anthracite spray can paint and clear coat them for some durability.

Its not as easy as you think. I tried to do mine and ended up buying all new parts.

Since my dash is the brushed alloy look the silver doors still look great and match the dash so I have no plans on replacing or painting them.

For what you can buy the downtubes for I think it is easier to just buy them unless painting them looks better then the factory parts. I have not seen any painted downtubes so if you have done it please post some pictures I love to see them.

I painted my tach ring, steering wheel trim and e-brake handle anthracite to match the rest of my interior. There is a Duplicolor paint that is a reasonable match out of the can with a light clear coat.

Skit

Your interior looks awesome. Did you paint yourself or have it done professionaly? Very nice looking.

I had most of the pieces painted professionally.

Didn't mean to take the thread off topic though, so you guys can get more info/pics here : https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...kitelluride531

What's the name of the color? Got pics? Share!!

I'm swapping my whole interior for anthracite - it was the one thing my car didn't have, but don't have the trim ring for the Nav. I'd look at painting it (and maybe the tach/speedo rings) if there's a good match.

FYI, I'll have some extra anthracite pieces next week, as I just got a reasonable deal on the whole set, but already have some of the pieces.

Hey, can you post some more pics from the back of the car so I can see more of the dash? I like the idea a lot, just want to see what it all looks like with the rest of the silver parts.

MINI2 member scooterboy has detailed instructions for painting the tach trim ring at http://home.comcast.net/~sfconnell/mods/tachring/home.htm . I'm planning to do the same for my tach/speedo rings (I have Nav). He used Plasti-kote 1006 DARK GREY M (plus clear coat). It should also be suitable for other trim pieces.

Good find, rkw! I knew someone had done it, I just couldn't find the thread. Will have to try that with my Nav trim ring...

It's been on my list of things to do, and I've had the link bookmarked for over a year now. What reminded me was kenchan's photo. His tach is crying out to be painted.

nope. the tach is fine in my silver color as it matches the steering wheel
silvers and the turn signal stalks. you dont just go out and paint everything.
i was about to post... should've left your silver tach alone.

Then the same argument could be made that with chromeline option, the tach ring should still be silver (not chrome) to better match the silver steering bits.

The anthracite interior (without chrome option) doesn't completely come together whether the tach ring stays silver or becomes anthracite, because of the various mismatching interior parts. Because of the shape of its ring, I visually associate the tach more with the rings on the dash than with the silver bits on the steering, and personally I find the tach silver ring to be a glaring mismatch. Apparently MINI thought so too, at least for the Piano Black interior, and they created an anthracite tach ring especially for that option.

Manual?

That shifter looks like a manual, but I don't see a clutch pedal in the pic. Is that an automatic?

Just keep in mind that although it's close, it's not a true match. The real anthracite has more blue in it. If someone knows of an truly exact match in a can out there, I'd redo mine.

Must be a CVT.

Oh, I take that back - notice the steering wheel paddles - MCSa
