Well, since they don't roll down (do they? they do in the ragtop) I'd assume that you'd not see much of anyhting... I'm assuming here that the glass when lit from the edge would only "glow" on the edges - the light would basically travel insde the glass. you might see a tinge of color close to the LEDs due to diffraction. Tinted glass might show this more or less, depending on the reflectivity of the coatings - it's hard to say.

I might just have to try this, just, you know, to satisfy my scientific curiosity...

Well, I haven't done it YET... Still, it only takes me about 90 seconds to get the door panels of now... Hmmm...

HEY - waitaminute! If one were to ETCH the glass, then the etching would be lit (he said, remembering his college Physics and Materials classes and light refraction/diffraction...)... could look like this, which would be highly illegal in blue on the side windows....

Ohhhhhhhh...... Ahhhhhh.......

That would, in fact, be sickly awesome....

I bet somebody does it.... (not me...)

I wonder if a simple "frosted" vinyl graphic would light up in a similar fashion? I'd not try etching safety glass - think that might be disastrous, seeing as how a tiny rock pit can lead to a huge crack in a windsheild.

That's why I said things like "sickly awesome" and "not me"...

Definitely more of a show car gimmick than a daily driver feature...

I doubt the vinyl would work - you need something to physically intrude on the surface of the glass to pick up the beam I think - even a few microns like etching...

I am NOT recommending this. But some freak will do it anyway. I mean, some people are so warped, they enjoy taping their trim.

I wonder if you could put some directional LEDs in the center "U" area in between the two headrests of the backseat - which would could kind of be similar to a light for the backseats?

I was actually thinking about this - if I could find some kind of 3 LED directional semi-dome stick on thing (map light?) - I think I may have some something at an auto parts store that might do it...

It would be tough to attach something to that curved surface, but the covers DO pop right off... It would be pretty easy to remove them, drill holes for a few 5MM white LEDs and aim them down and out towards the rear seat. Add in a simple round switch to the plastic trim at the passengers' shoulders and you have a simple control. It could easily work.

PS - looking at the bar, I'd add them a tad higher, like 3/4 of the way up towards where the headrest swells out.
