Leather dash opinion

hi gang,

I'm strongly considering a JCW leather dash for my '06 MCS which is dark silver/black top. The red stitching looks really great but I don't have any other red details inside. Unless I go to the UK to get other color stitching, I have red or black to choose from. Any suggestions?

PS -got the chrome line interior and black leatherette seats. Current dash is patina alloy (plastic that looks as if someone got their feet all over it)

Thanks

I'd say either works. If you like red, you don't need any other complementary colors - it's all about youification. Otherwise, black goes with everything.

leather dash

Swiz, I didn't want to go to the UK to get the other colors either. Without any red accents, I opted for the black stitching. I really like the the way it makes the interior look, but I wish I had gotten the red stitching. Looking back, I don't think its subtle look would have detracted from my interior at all. If you're going to drop the dime, make sure you either chech ebay and then call the dealer doing the selling. Most likely it'll be one of NAM's vendors and they'll give you a big discount.

Anyway, you'll be glad you ditched the plastic dash. I've gotten very used to the leather and couldn't imagine reinstalling the plastic.

good luck

I've got an idea! Paint your interior red :

It should fit in just fine then!

Hey Swizzle - I thought you were getting that dash for Christmas, I've been patiently waiting for your pics over on the week 23 thread. My opinion, go with the red for a dash of color. And be sure to get those pics up ASAP 'cuz I'm lusting after that dash too and can't get enough looks!

I dont know how the quality is compared to the JCW which is beautiful....but myminiparts.com offers a leather dash and you choose the color of the stitching

Nice job on the interior skitelluride, looks as if you put alot of time and thought into your MINI.

Gabe, your car and article were the inspiration for the leather with red stitiching.

UsCoops - hopefully I should have this purchased and installed soon.

Thanks everyone, I'm going with the Red

maybe the leather will muffle the dash squeaks...

The only dash squeaks I have are down near the bottom of the AC controls. Occasionally, when its actually cold out, I get a squeak near the left upper dash vent. I just push the whole thing in and it goes away.

MyMini Dash | Downtubes

I recieved the MyMini leather dash and downtubes for Christmas. They both look/feel/smell great! Great for those of us with the 5 piece dash! Great service from Peter! Now if only MyMini would make a JCW Leather/Alcantara style 2 spoke wheel... hmmmm. Here's a couple pics ( ignore the spots on the floormat... it's from conditioning the newly installed leather bits )

Bonus! It does help with the squeaks and creaks! The only one I have left is a very slight rattle from around the interior door reflectors until it warms up.

P.S. Why doesn't anyone like the Alloy Patina dash? It's what I had and always liked the look and it always drew compliments from non MINI owners too... hmmm

Hey Foldinghalo

Looks nice, I can't wait to get mine in. I noticed you also did the tubes on the doors and upgraded the shifter and ebrake boots. Where all of these items from the same source? Thanks for the pics

Thanks!

The e-brake and shift boot were the first things to go, except for the stock antenna which was gone before we left the dealer lot back in Jan 03! Lookin' back through the records it seems they were purchased at R Speed but are the same as the boots offered at MossMini. Which is were I recently purchased the Door Pulls. The only warning about the door pulls is that the little area behind the armrest is not covered. The two pieces (per side) velcro nice and snug around the front and upper section though. A very good fit. See pic below. I also recommend the e-brake handle from MiniMania while your at it! It matches and feels just right.

Foldinghalo,

What did you do to your shifter and cup holder rings to make them darker. Did you just paint them or replace them. I notice mine getting scuffed and would like to look for a darker color somehow.

They're the leather covered rings from NewMINI. I had been looking at the rings and having a difficult time trying to talk myself into justifying the price/aesthetic benefit ratio. Fortunately I picked up an unused pair here on NAM for much less.

ECS Tuning, why don't you carry the normal leather dash with no colored stitching. I would love to have a leather dash in my MCS, but the red stitched does not go well with my 2006 Hyper Blue MCS. Do you guys offer other colored stitching? Please let me know.

Thanks,
James

James,

Just the red, last time we checked the gray and other colors ( which were Euro only were NLA ) . I think the red looks the best in my own opinion and matches about everything. Matches other JCW ad GP red stitched items also.

Thanks
