... Chrono Pack clowns would it take to make it, er, worthwhile for you to offer a set for us?

Sorry guys - I'm not making them, I'm just documeting the installation for someone. Can't say too much more ATM, but I'll definitely pass along the desire for Chrono pack users tio have them, too.

I don't have the Chrono, but IIRC, the gauges are not only different but are also MOLDED into 3D shapes between the gauges, correct? I don't know for 100% certain, but I'd hazard to guess that making something in three dimensions is much more complex than making something that's flat, and maybe that's why the manufacturers are starting with the simpler gauges...

I'll be doing a LED mod for a Chrono Pack coming up soon, and am really anxious to get it apart. They LOOK molded, and I'm curious how that'll work out.
I don't have the Chrono Pac.. I just want dark grey.

Worth the price

It amazes me how much some accessories for MINIs cost. My bf bought a whole new set of guage faces for his Miata for $38 a few months ago and they look great.

Jenn B,

I think once you see them you'll realize why they're so expensive. These ARE NOT the cheap sticker overlays you see for lots of cars (like Miyata's). They're made in the US and there's a lot of engineering cost. The shading of the LED's is pretty complicated. If it's not done right you'll end up with a 3 that's blindingly bright, a 9 that barely lights, etc. The company specializes in aerospace dials so they know what they're doing. My friend who works there told me that the numbers have 7 different layers of shading to get the lighting right. It's still not perfect. If you look closely you can see slight variations, but you can see them in the stock dials too. I don't know who's doing them for Outmotoring but if he hasn't tested them yet he may be in for a shock...

I'm digging the black. I've got trim rings from Mini Mania I'm going to anodize red....inset to the antrhacite rings. I think it would be a nice combo, but also planning to wait for Outmotoring's option to compare.

edit for a quick photochop (thanks to bluezeke for the donor pic)

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree because the ones for the Miata are actually not stickers or overlays, they were full replacements. Yes, some gauge face replacements for Miatas and other cars are as expensive as these but I just don't see why.

But other people can spend their money on whatever they want... doesn't bother me a bit.

I like your interior. I think we might be going for the same black/red theme . Maybe I might suggest you paint the steering wheel as well to finish off the look:

How hard was it to pull the wheel apart to paint? It looks great btw, are those inserts on the wheel or painted oem?

oh, mine looks stock right now. I just did a photochop of how I want it to look. Got the trim rings, but need to do the gauge faces and the MFSW covers like you did - that looks great. I plan to do the suede JCW wheel and leather dash with red stitching, so I'll paint everything during that swap.

Just put the red ones in my car...less than an hour, very easy if you like ripping things apart...

Don't mind the scratches on the tach, I have a habit of tapping on it as I drive:

check the link, the lighting is on par but not as "clean" as OEM. By clean I mean that some of the cutouts for the light don't matchup with the cutout of the Red color, and that the light throughout the numbers isn't as uniform.

Woah. Awesome? I have to disagree. For that price, the light inserts better match up 100%, and the face lighting better be even. The night pic of that speedo is... ugh. Sorry, yes, I'm a perfectionist, I guess.

Tho, I will be eagerly awaiting 1nf3rn0's dials and will take good long-exposure noght shots of his blue with normal faces, and then the custom faces. We'll see how it goes.

it won't take 2-3 weeks, I bought them last sunday on ebay I believe. As for matching up, I guess if you are a perfectionist it would be a problem, but in buying them to change the color of the face, my goal was how they look in the day time, not at night (when you can't see the color anyways). There they pass with flying colors, at least for me.

more info please? I'm having a devil of a time finding an aftermarket CD with amber illumination and the features I want. Everything is blue now. Perhaps I should stop swimming upstream.....

Actually, I forgot to verify - are these the OutMotoring ones? If so, I think their prices were in a more acceptible range, so it may not be as bad as my first reaction...
