My Palo Uber Light Bar experience

With all the light bars out there today and all of the ones forthcoming, I went with the Palo Uber for the following reasons:

-hidden mounting system
-flexibility of lights
-comes with an interior switch panel for the light switches
-no drilling into metal (only 4 small holes in the plastic bumper)
-custom wire harness designed for our cars

I went with 2 Hella 500 driving lights and 2 Hella 500 fog lights. The great thing about the bar is you select what you need for lights. I didnot see the need for 4 huge Hella driving lights. I wired the driving lights to the high beams to be legal, but then left the fogs on there own indpendnet switch.

Installation was pretty easy, you need to be a little handy around the shop, but you also do not need to be a pro. It took 3.5-4 hours to do the full installation. And I installed it after work one evening

Quality of the bar and the wire harness are top notch. The bar is a very heavy piece of metal that bolts directly onto the metal frame of the car. I feel like now I have a metal push bar thething is so soild! The wire harness ia also, very nice. Hella sends a harness with each set of lights, but the Palo Uber is a much thicker guage wire. The really nice thing about the Palo Uber wire harness is that it makes the installation so much easier by having just one harness to install and not trying to run a bunch of wires under the hood.

Customer service, I feel also needs to be mentioned. The guys over there called me once I placed my order and went over the installation and gave me a few pointers. Also, whenever I had a question he would either call me or email me right back with an answer.

I am willing to pay a little more for two reasons, great quality products and great customer service.
Check it out here for more information or if you want one:

i heard that it does but with only the 2 outside so im guessing that if you have a smaller bulb that it would work for all 4 have the 2 big ones on the side and 2 small ones in the middle permitting the plate doesnt hit

My Quick Tips:

Once you remove the front bumper, you will see another valance underneath the car, also remove that part.

Test fit the light bar to the frame, make sure it bolts up easily, mine needed a little help at first.

Drill your holes in the bumper with the template.

Then mount the light brackets to the bar and bumper with the bumper off. You will see this bar adds a lot of strength to your front bumper now.

Now reinstall your bumper. Line up the bar with the bolts and the bumper should slide right on.

You may need to jack the front end of your car up to reach the light bar bolts. Since, there is not a lot of room to fit underneath and reach them.

The rest is cake, running the wires is pretty simple inside the car. The only thing that slowed me down inside was the darn columns. You have to push them down and then pull them out once you remove the bolts.

I also, think you can mount your front plate with four lights. You would just have to mount the plate directly, to the bumper with out the OE bracket. And you may not be able to read the plate.

If you really wanted to..

Looks awesome. I'm doing something similar on my WRX, with the same light layout. But I'm using all Home Depot parts for the light mounts. It's been taking a bit longer to do in terms of getting the right parts to fit the way I want, but the price will be in the two digits which is cool for me. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for a more turn-key solution, but there aren't that many light bars like this available for WRX's surprisingly. And I don't want to pay that much and have to adapt the heck out of a Mini part.

Nice job. Looks great.

The only power tool you need is a drill, to drill the holes in the bumper

California has very strict front license plate laws, it is enough PC to pull you over.
So be careful when removing plates for lights or anything else. The plate must be readable and not blocked in any portion.

But it looks soo cool !!

Smaller Hella's in the middle would allow use of your plate, or no lights at all would too..

Do you have a pic of the switches/switchplate on the interior. I'd love to see how they look. They light up, too, correct?

Carol-
Have you seen these backlit, lcd, touch sensitive 12v switches? (linked below) They look like they may fit in your faceplate. I was looking for a switch that is a little different than a standard rocker/toggle switch. Thanks in advance for your input! I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on your light bar.

My guess, would be yes. If anything, it does not take much to enlarge the hole if needed. And post pictures of the switch once you get it done!

All you have to do to mount the front plate with the bar is move it up using the top screws on the bottom of the plate. There won't be anything holding the top of the plate, but it is plenty secure. That is how we have our europlate mounted. I am in SoCal and have had no front plates on both of my cars for over two years, no tickets

When you mount the plate using the top mounting screws into the bottom of the plate, it raises the plate above the lights, my wifes europlate is clearly visible Check out the first pic in the gallery

Your plate does look good, even the before photo's and after you can not tell how much the plate has moved..

My only, question is how would a regular US plate look mounted that way? Would it stick up to tall above the bumper?
