This is a great thread. I'm 5'11 and 155 lbs. Don't even need the mod, but the humor and incredible quality of this DIY mod keeps me reading the posts. Gosh... I never realized that folks of larger stature buy Minis and find ways to tweak them enough to provide adequate comfort. RIGHT ON!!!! I cannot believe how nice this fabrication looks. If I attempted a reshape of the DT, it would look like I had an accident with a blow torch. Wouldn't be pretty, nor professional.

 

That's some great fab work. If you're still working in fiberglass, an easier way to get around the mixing is to use a UV cure resin. I've used this in other projects and it hardens in 5 minutes. You can find it at most surf shops, (don't know of many in TN) but it cuts out alot of the guess work.

Nparker, thanks for the links, I will check them out. Of course you must keep in mind that I'm and 'Old Fart' and you know what they say about teaching old dogs new tricks.

If I get into doing many of these, I surely want the best product I can make, and if I can save some time and aggrivation along the way, that's icing on the cake.

Wow, glad I found this thread. I have the same issue with my leg on the tube because of my size. I'm definitely interested in one of these, looks great.

 

I want one. That is amazing. I fully understand why you did it, after every long drive I go on I haved a little dent in my leg from the downtube. Its probably the only thing on my MINI I dont like

 

I am comitted (or need to be comitted :impatient ) to being at the Dragon, somewhere, sometime with at least one modded 05/06 DT to show and also for anyone to sit in mine if they want. I really think you will like the extra room for your leg. No flatulance please, .

Sorry, the sample I will be bringing has already been sold for several weeks. I do plan on making several as soon as I can find a supply of cores. If anyone can help me with some affordable cores to get started, that would be great. After that it will be that the price includes your old DT or extra $ for the core. But I would like to make about ten at a time instead of one at a time. That will allow better QC and also make them go a bit faster.

if you want to see my downtube mod. I made the second one for a NAMMER this past week, so if you want to see one for real or sit in my MINI to feel the difference just wave me down.

I will be wandering the Dragon and local hot spots on Thursday and/or Friday, depending upon the weather until about mid afternoon.

I know there will be lots of MINIs that will look like mine, so I'm going to put "YD" in white tape letters on the back window. I have an 06 CR/W MCS.

I hope to meet and visit with a bunch of you guys and gals. If anyone wants to set up a meeting, send me a PM.
