Question about MSFW buttons

I want to know if it is possible to retrofit MSFW buttons on 05 MCS that came from the factory w/out ? or I'm willing to get JCW wheel with alcantara (like it on my 330i ) but still want to have MSFW buttons.

Please let me know if you seen any DIYs here or somewhere else.

I'm new to this forum , so any help will be appreciated ...

Yes, if your car has MFSW you can transfew over the controls. If you have the 3-Spoke MFSW already the parts on that wheel fit right on the JCW, just remove and transfer to the new wheel.

It looks like there is a factory retrofit kit for the 3-spoke wheel:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...21&hg=32&fg=95

You can look at the 2-spoke retrofit insructions here:

http://motoringfile.com/howto/MFSW.PDF

I don't know how similiar the 3-spoke conversion is to the 2-spoke conversion. One of the differences between MFSW/non-MFSW is the slip ring behind the steering wheel - MFSW has more connections:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...02&hg=61&fg=35

The retrofit kits include the MFSW slip ring (the instructions show how to swap it out).....

You also have to have the dealer reprogram the car when done.

I didn't do the complete swap, but I did install the MFSW in my 2-spoke car to use the MF buttons for other uses. I have posted on that before.

The kits are fairly expensive... but not as expensive as swapping 2-spoke to 3-spoke (new airbag $$$$$$)

Hope that helps you to research a little more to make a decision.

I'm not looking to swap 2-spoke to 3-spoke ... I have 3 spoke already but without MFSW buttons. I was thinking to get JCW wheel and don't know if the car already pre-wired for MFSW buttons.

^ Thanks for the good info ...

The car is pre-wired for MFSW. It's the different parts and the dealer reprogramming you'll need to swap it out and get it working. The JCW wheel does not appear to be available in a retrofit kit, so you need to make sure all of the parts you need are available - it appears they are. Check out the prices at the dealer. The MFSW slip ring lists for $153. The button blocks are probably +$100 each. Your dealer will probably charge you one hour to reprogram. Check the realoem pics & talk to the parts desk. You can get the parts cheaper thru one of the NAM-discount dealers if you pop for it. Good Luck.
