Interior/Exterior Underbody Neon Lighting
#78
If I was to do it, I would tap the trigger to the dome wire... and possibly put
another relay with a photocell sw. Then it'll light up only at night when
you unlock your doors and while you get in/out of your car.
After you start, the neon turns off with the domelight. Driving around
most states with neon is illegal. When you shut off the motor, the dome
light and neons both illuminate.
Should look pretty fashionable (if your car's really dressedup) and add
foot lighting while your passengers get in/out of the car.
Other then that, neons are pretty tacky and should be done on something
like a modded Civic or Neon or something.

Listen to the wife!!!! And if you are old enough to be married you should have out grown neon by now. I did a lot of stupid things to my first car in the 70s. I really regret it now. I am still embarassed to think that I cut a hole in the roof of a 69 Mach 1 so I could install a tacky sunroof that you had to crank up by hand. The big wing I added to the back was also pretty lame.

Go for it. If you like them, thats all that counts. 2F2F? Well, I liked both. I like ricers, I like euro, I like semi's..I like vehicles period.
As for a adding something on your car that doesn't help fro speed, well I got Bonnet stripes and thinking of numbers. I know some people that think thats stupid to dress a car up like a race car.
I like the glow of cars with neon. I don't want it on my car. I think it looks really cool on motorcycles.
One thing I never understood was the hatred of "ricers" but hey back in the 60's I think the Beach Boys wrote a song "No Go SHowboat" so controversy has always been around.

This is one of the funniest threads on any forum that I’ve ever read!
There is a difference between fashionable and stylish! If you’re old enough to look at teenagers and their behaviors objectively you’ll notice that many of them show their disregard for societal standards by being different, but it is the rare teenager that has the courage to be different from the other rebellious kids.

To those that were not at the dragon run this year and didn't see my car with all the lights on it...Most of the comments were good comments. Most people said it looked nice, but they wouldn't do it. I'm thinking about getting the LED lights for the underbody of my MINI. They seem to show a better light than the neon. I think if you like the looks of it go for it. But I wouldn't recommend you have them on while the wife is around hehe.

I say go for it if it makes you happy. If it wasn't for the "ricer" crowd maybe BMW wouldn't have seen a market for an upscale pocket rocket over here?
Before you go Neon though, check out http://www.lighttape.com, they are a little more expensive but looks really cool and seems to fit into some neat spaces better than neon. I've thought of using thier product under the hood so it shines through my scoop and I have seen a cheaper version used to back light the side vents. Just my .02.

Wow - What a Reaction!
This thread was pretty good. I'm a 43 year old guy who was actually considering some mild neon for effect just because it seems insane to do so, but I think this thread has talked me out of it.
I got a say, though, that I saw a Mini recently that had two purple lights up around the windshield washer jets on the bonnet, very small but definitely purple and facing forward - and I thought it looked great.
Maybe there is something subtle to be done with accent lighting that would be more interesting than a full blown neon glow off the bottom.

puddle lights, huh? pretty cool. Isn't that just a matter of wiring up a couple of Radioshack LED's in parallel with the foot area bulbs? should be an easy
weekend project.
might be better to wire that up to the bottom of the inside door
panels instead of under the side skirts so that it is not exposed to
weather, and will illuminate with how wide the door is opened for
better function.
