OK, Help me out. What does everyone think of Neon lighting for the Mini Cooper? My wife said she will divorce me if I get it. Cool or Hoakie?

Personaly, I think that that is too much. I have some red lights, that blink because of the centrifical force, and they are red, I think that they look pretty bad @$$. They come in green, blue, and red. They are about $10 for four of them, and they go on the valve stems. Pretty sweet, and cheap mod if you ask me.

If all you do is install the underlights... it can look kinda odd... but if you are building a show car... or even a new paintjob or mega mods.... it can look good....

but you cannot ABUSE the use...

Good Luck!

Darn I wanted to be the first here with them!!!

I think they look cool if done right. If you set it up so you dont see the actual neon bulb and just the glow from under the car it'll look awesome. I'm planning on getting some green neons for my MINI cause I'm gonna try and get it in some shows this summer. I've also heard that there are LED under body kits which are suppose to be stronger and look better then neons.

OH and enough of this "thats too rice" crap!!! If the guy wants some neon lights then I say go for it! Not every MINI has to have a UJ on it (although mine does )

They're cool...as long as they're turned off.

Don't you think you have an unusual enough car as it is?! Your wife is right. Be tasteful and leave them off.

Personally, I think the underbody lights are in very bad taste. Maybe it's because I live in a city, but I've only seen these on ridiculous, barely-drivable Civics and big dumb shiny pickup trucks. It's kind of like walking around with one of those glow-sticks hanging around your neck. Yeah, you turn heads, but what's the point?

Wow, So many negative views of the Underlights...

The problem now is....

You(we) all have the same car... how boring...

When a caravan of mini's drives by... there is no individuality among them... It's neat for about a second and a half...

People point and smile... then they say to their passengers,,, "what a bunch of dorks"

But add the underlit Mini and then you've got someone bold enough to break from the norm....
Expressing his individuality within a conformed group. Yes,it's still a cooper... but with extra pepper!

Let's not knock someone down for wanting to be differant... isn't that partof the reason you got your mini? Let's encourage him to be bold!

All I say is, get the led's in a complimentary color or in the same color as your Coop, but please, please... make sure it is done well.

I don't think anyone is "knocking him down." He asked for opinions, and got them. I don't see any personal attacks here. Of course - be bold, be unique, do whatever you want to! You don't have to care whether people on this board like it or not. The discussion about the valve stems was mostly negative opinions as well, but some people have them and really like them. C'est la vie.

I was thinking about this as well. I got some info though that you might be intersted in about polycarbonate/ acrylic lights. I saw a sample at the last sema show. dude beat the crap out of it with a hammer and it never went out!

I'm also thinking of putting my car in some shows. Let's network.

To each their own, but I think neons look rediculous on pretty much anything. Plus the MINI is such a classy car and underbody neons, to me, screams tacky. That's just me though and to each their own.

I normally say YUCK and DON'T DO IT!

But recently I saw a car with lights in the wheel wells. It lit up behind the wheel nicely and with the right rims would look pretty eye catching. Problem is I'm sure you have to protect it very well, and keep the wells cleaned.

If you are using them purely for show, sure, get em.

If, however, you are going for the pimped-out "check me out over here" look, I would say "No, your wife is right."

I personally believe the underlighting of cars looks ridiculous out of context (i.e. on the street), but sometimes can be cool if the car is being shown to add and extra something.

Just one man's humble opinion.

Everything has a trend...a time frame if you will.
I had neon under my lowered truck about 12 years ago. I was one of the first, and it looked cool. But I was 18......Hair Bands were cool too.

Lights are the "thing" right now. Valve stem, wiper nozzels, LED, interior neon, whatever. I thing Neon is a fad that died and went away long ago. But in another 3 or 4 months, what will be the thing? It won;t be the lights that the high school kids bought from Pep Boys and stuck on his mom's Honda trying to be cool.

My feeling is that if you can go into PEP Boys or a Kragen, Schucks, Checker, whatever, it is the wrong idea. Don't be "Captain BOLT-ON"

Pass on the neon. Use the money on something else.

If your going to show it, you can really use the money on a few other choice items that will really help you stand out and gain points.
Example, Custom stereo install, graphics, engine detail, etc. Not to mention your show display. What about a show card or painted accesories to match the car.

Just my opinion.
