Yes, WAY too expensive.
MSRP on the kit is $2,100 and suggested install is 2 hours. Even if they charge you 4 hours and their labor rate is $150 (higher than I've seen anywhere), they are still way too high.
Shop around, some dealers will sell the kit below retail and give you a deal on the install. You could probably get it done under or near $2,000.

Didnt want to start a new thread, so posting here.
I got a discount on the Kit $1700 but the installation is quoted $540. Please let me know if this looks reasonable. I have seen lower prices here in forums. I live in SoCal and not really aware of standard installation charges here.
Thanks.

so did they ship it to your dealer? I assume they shipped the hardware (exhaust and intake) and the software was done with the install?

JCW tuning kit
I was at my Omaha Mini dealer today. I asked about the JCW tune kit and he said that he just did a quote on that the other day: $2984.37. I told him that I can get the JCW tune kit from another dealer for about $1600. and he said "Good luck in getting it installed". He did say that he would be more than happy to install it, but then his shop charges would be $1400. $3000 for a tune kit, just about makes it a better deal to go the full JCW route, which is what I believe I will do.
I, also asked about after market air intake, exhaust, intercooler add ons. He said, go right ahead, but if anything happens during warrantee period, in all probability BMW/Mini won't honor the warrantee. He also meantioned about a blown 1st generation motor and high revs. Twice run up to 8000. BMW/Mini thumbs down. He even said that one over rev would void the warrantee. I just shook my head. If a motor can't take one over rev, of course 10000 would be rediculous, but the Mini motor should be able to take 7500 or so. Whatever, don't miss a shift.
