JCW Car Cover Install

Hi Group, I picked up my JCW last week. I also picked up the JCW car cover.. The only instructions I have are in another language..I'm missing the first page or two..

Can anyone tell me the proper way to install the cover...I see a zipper and a buckle on the left rear and the bag ends up inside against the paint so I'm a little conerned about that scraching the paint. And is there a way to lock it down? So someone doesn't borrow it...

Thanks a lot Dave.

Hi my cover is the outside JCW cover. red with Checker board top...
When I picked up my MINI they had put it in the boot...trunk what ever...
Everything is new 2011 JCW.. so I went for the cover since it will spend most of it's time outside in the driveway... with wind and snow I know from past experience twigs, garbage cans etc. wll be blown around... plus if it snows and I need to drive or just want to clean off the car.. snow/ ice will scratch the black paint ..I figured if the snow is on the cover I can brush it off with less worry...

Ok the cover was in a sealed clear plastic bag with a sticker with a code and wording "JCW outdoor cover"
But the cover was in a grayish bag so I carefully slit the clear bag (in case it was wrong) I unzipped the grayish carry case and there was an all grey cover.. I didn't want to pull it all out if it was wrong ..they could say I used it.... There was a paper inside that said MONTAGEINFORATION ORIGINAL MINI ABDECKHAUBE OUTDOOR with a picture of a plain grey cover which said MINI... So with that I called my MA since I ordered and paid for "JCW" cover... he said bring it back (I had to go back a week later because my Sport Stripes weren't right...which we knew before I took the car..all's good on that )
The SA told the PG (parts guy I dun know) to look into it well am I an idiot, maybe not.. if you pull the cover out and unfold it, it was a JCW cover all along..but then again I was told not to unfold it and by looking in it was only grey plus the pic oh well....
Now I get the cover back in the trunk.. get home and the booklet just has the front/rear cover + printed page 3 on the inside..pages 1+2 must have run away the instructions I have are in I think maybe 3 foreign tounges...

I know your not supposed to drag a cover across the car, you unfold it on the car... the thing is this cover has the carrybag attached to it as well..it ends up on the inside of the cover on the car...
So I have been opening the "bag" on the windshield and on folding the length of the car, then placing the mirror covers on the mirrors first, then hooking on the front/hood/bonnet part under the front bumper, then draping the sides down, then the rear/boot part, there is a strap w/ buckle which I snap on then Zip down the left side Zipper which pulls in the tension on the cover...

I just wanted to know the right way(if there was one)
Also if there was a way to lock it onto the car... I may look into putting a soft/plastic grommet through the cover near the rear side and run a cable through the hole then the wheel rim and back...with a small lock..

I don't want someone to steal the cover even if it's not to use on a car it might be for spite (NYC) there have been times where the homeless have stolen motorcycle covers in the winter and sleep in them to keep out of the rain/cold...

I'll see about pictures this weekend...
I've gotten quicker about putting it on but I take my time trying not to mar the finish...
Not sure if it will clear the CF JCW spoiler.. I do take my antenna off.. If I get a stubbie may still take it off..I don't want to tear a $200 + cover..

That's a cool Clubman cover... just a thought how about some red reflective tape cut out and put where the taillights would be.. so someone wont run into your car parked on the street at night...they hit our cars here in the broad daylight parked in a legal spot...let alone covered in the dark..

Dave..

That cover looks nice, too bad I can't use an indoor cover... I have to park outside in the driveway ....
One thing I started to do since I read about the hoodscoops melting because of turbo heat build up after shut down, is waiting to put the cover on for at least a half hour or so to let the hood cool down...
I don't want the cover to melt to the hood or to retain any more heat under the hood that may cause issues...

NYC-JCW ...you have this JCW outdoor Car cover that is red with Checks on the roof and black mirror pockets? http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...door_car_cover like this one??? right? I love this!!!

My car cover came with directions and a storage bag!! I needed the JCW car cover that will clear the JCW rear spoiler and it does fit the spoiler like a glove!... I Love the feeling of this cover! its soft as a plush blanket on the inside!! Its like spandex legging material on the outside..

Easy instructions

I do left mirror first- Then the right mirror. The stretch the rear over my antenna so it is in the sleeve. Then the front.

I gotta ask???????????????????????

What do you have to do to the antenna with the indoor covers? Do you have to remove it everytime you cover up the car?

My cover has a sleeve provided for it. It might look manly but it does work without taking the antenna off.

Yes my cover is the red with checkered top... it's more of a vinyl then a spandex..
I open the bag on the hood/windsheild as it's part of the cover then put the little mirror booties on first then the hood.. then the sides, buckle up the strap then zip it tight....

That's kind of cool having an antenna condom.... I just remove the antenna everytime... I will be going for a stubbie in the future...but I still think it may have to be removed...

I was thinking of buying the JCW car cover as well, especially for the winter time. I was gonna use it when I got to work, to cover my MINI and if it snowed I wouldn't be brushing the snow off of my MINI but the cover. That got me thinking, if my MINI is wet and covered with salt, I'm not sure if I want to put the cover on, worrying that:
A. the cover will get wet and dirty on the inside
B. the salt on my MINI might scratch up the paint when I put the cover on.
So right now I decided not to get the cover and find a super soft brush to brush the snow off of my MINI. Any suggestions on a brush?

I love my cover....

Even fits with the rear spoiler.

Of course, I'll have to get another color cover...

Good idea about not putting a cover on a car when it's wet or covered with salt... sure good way to scratch the paint.

See my answer above. There is NO WAY I'd brush snow off my paint on my car. If you have excess snow and need to brush off the top few inches, so be it.

However, DO NOT drag a brush against the paint. I get customers in EVERY spring that either need their paint wetsanded and buffed or refinished because they "brushed the snow off their car".

Just my suggestion.
