JCW lip questions

Tried the search but couldn't find anything. Is the JCW lip available by itself? Can you install it on a regular bumper? How involved is it? How much is it and where can I find one?

Check Sewell parts. They sell it separately. Someone posted the install instructions I think in the interior/exterior section.

Did mine today. No need for a rivet gun really. Pretty easy.

Care to share install instructions. Sewell parts does not include any instructions. A DYI would be a great help.

Thanks pal.

Even though I'm supposedly 2 months out on taking delivery, I wouldn't mind seeing a writeup.

What's the pop rivets for really?

Sorry I'm super busy these days ...here's a brief run down of what I did. Do your best to save and keep each item in working order. You may need some of the old plastic pieces, nuts, and bolts to install the new lip.

my definitions, they may not be what you call things:

nut zirts = the little plastic things that screw into moldings. The head gets jammed in them to tighten

plastic rivets = small plastic rivets (used to hold the flares to the wheel liners

- remove the plastic "nut zirts" that hold the stock lip to the bumper, under the front of the car, There are also two silver screws under there, take those off too.

- remove the two screws(one on each side vehicle) in the wheels wells. They hold the lip in place where it meets the flare.

- remove the first and second plastic rivet above the screw I talked about in the last instruction

- tug gently on the flare. dislodge it from the bumper in the three places above where the lip meets the flare

- if you look under the flare you will see the lip is held up by two plastic rivets, slightly larger than the ones that hold the flare on. I drilled these plastic rivets out, (replace them with nut zirts during install, you'll have some left over)

- do those steps on both sides before gently tugging the stock lip forward. It should slide toward you, straight off. If you have everything un-screwed just use gentle force when you pull. If you have to pull hard, you still have something screwed to the bumper.

- installation is pretty straight forward once you've seen/done the removal. Use the new, provided screws to install the bumper. It call for screws on all but three places underneath. The center and two holes closest to the center require nut zirts, not screws. Everything else under the R60 gets screws.

- as I said above use the nut zirts to attach the new lip to the bumper, under the flare on each side.

again sorry there are no pictures, or a more detailed installation write-up. I hope it helps.

Installed the lip today, took 1 1/2 hours total. Sorry no pictures, I didn't have a lift so squeezed under car and not much room for pictures. If you follow Johnjohn 's directions along with the directions from MINI, found in the other thread should be straight forward.

A few helpful hints.
1. Look at the new lip to see all the holes, this will remind you all the screws to be
removed from the stock lip.
2. Be careful when pulling off the stock lip, the side clips might scratch the painted
bumper. You might even use masking tape to protect along the trimline.
3. Cover your wheels if they are painted. Working with sharp tools in tight quarters
can be hazardous to your wheels, take my word for it.
4. If possible use a lift, it will make lining up the holes much easier. Possibly, cutting
installation time in half. Go ahead and take the wheels off if using a lift.

Good luck and thanks again to Johnjohn.

Anticipation

First and foremost, thank you to all who posted instructions for JCW lip/spoiler.The link to the pdf for aero kit install is extremely helpful. So far the trickiest part was getting to 2 small plastic OEM rivets behind flares (gently tug is an understatement) but I was able to remove lower valance in 20 mins & am currently waiting on a Fed Ex delivery....

Assembly of adapters/spacers & attachment took another 45 mins (would've been longer without instructions - thanks again)

Great instructions to follow; I've added a picture of those unseen plastic rivets on the fender...

I did not reinstall those flaps... Not sure if the JCW Lip has mounting holes either.

do they go in between the spacer and the lip, rather than attach directly to the bottom? That's the only way I can see it possibly working. I've already installed it without so I guess that'll be how it stays for now.

No they should fit right on the lower part of the lip. they slid right in to a couple groves, if I remember right. i would have to look at a picture again to tell you for sure but if my memory serves me right they fit nicely right back on.

If you look in the jcw body kit thread here on NAM, I put a picture of it installed on the spacer. I think it will give you a good idea how to attach them. It seemed like they slid into a spot on the spacer that came with the kit from Sewell mini.

There is a slit that it fits into. The hardest part was getting the rivets to lock into the JCW lip with those slits. I had to use a different set of push pins. The ones from the original didn't fit.

Anyone know how much the JCW OEM front lip is through the dealerships?

I'm pondering trying to do this myself when I have a free day, but I think I only want the front lip and not all the way around...

I know it may be available through other places cheaper, but I have this obsession with everything on the car being OEM...

Sewell (Mini Dealer) has them at $252.00 before the 5% NAM discount. There's a whole thread on it.
