I though mine was missing the pop and burble too

Talked to my MA. He said it should "appear" around the end of the break in period (2000 km)

Running an errand today from the renovation center, I drove home with the tail gate open

I could hear the burble quite easily. But with tailgate closed, not so much. So maybe it's not as loud as other Mini models?

I'm told it's the tune, not the exhaust. You should hit-up MINI like I did. They might listen if enough of us complain!

Did you email MINI through their customer service or how did you contact corporate about the problem?

I'm not convinced it's a problem after reading posts on this thread assuming they are accurate? From what folks are saying they purposely tuned the US versions to not have it, and EU versions to have it. I suppose this could be the same as certain options and packages are available on the same car depending on where you order it from.

I'm not happy about it, i am just wondering if Mini will really see this as a problem or not...

I just did it through the website, but linked my customer profile to it.

I'll call them tomorrow too - the email confirmation I got suggests they don't call you back, so I'll call them.

They'll see it as a problem if enough of us tell them it is. There's precedent here: 1st gen cars had it. 2nd gen cars didn't....initially. But there was a backlash and they brought it back.

Now, they've done it again, on of all things, JCW. Madness.

Ah, my bad-we are new to Mini, so i don't know some of the history. Thanks for mentioning this. I will confirm the exhaust sound(or lack thereof!) in Sport mode when I get ours and will make my displeasure known. I would think this would just be a simple ECU change...

thanks again!

Here's my two cents worth on pop and burble (P&B): our Countryman will pop and burble only when I rev it in park (or so it seems). With a warm engine, windows down, etc. I've tried hard accelerations with a quick deceleration, up and down hills with no P&B. Since I really do have P&B sitting still, does anyone have an idea how I can get it while driving?

I see that this is a JCW discussion, but I thought it was the best thread for me as well!

I think I managed to get a little bit of pop/burble out of my CM JCW, but maybe I imagined it. I was slowing down for a stop and made the 3-2 downshift pretty early. Coming down rapidly from about 5k RPM, it rumbled and I heard/felt 2-3 small pops. It wasn't as substantial as in the CMS4 that I test drove. I've only got about 500 miles on my CM JCW, so I haven't done a lot of hard driving yet.

I've begun to notice it much more on my '14 CM All4 now that I've passed the 800 miles mark - had heard a few early on (with under 100 miles on the odometer), but more more noticeable now.

And you should, on a CMS. The CM JCW, however, is conspicuously missing the familiar pop and burble that has come to be a characteristic feature of the Cooper S and JCW models.

That is really strange. My CMS does pop (started at about 750-800mi) but it isn't super noticable with the windows up. In fact, today is the first time I've heard her pop with all the windows up (now just shy of 900mi) so maybe it will get louder in the coming weeks.

Sucks about the JCW though. I've heard others complain about the lack of sound on that model. Makes no sense to me.

I agree. I'm going to wait and see how mine sounds when it's good and broken in before I panic. The exhaust is sounding louder in general over the miles so perhaps there is hope yet.

Weird. It wasn't something I expected on my CMS, figuring it was only intended to be for the JCW exhaust. Hope the rest of your break in brings out the best!

Yep, as Z06_Pilot said, this is a video of a european car (see the shape of the tag). The euro spec cars pop, the US spec cars don't.

I'm in the midst of arranging a full replacement exhaust system to make mine sound more 'MINI', less 'Corolla'.

Yep, I can say from actual experience, after 1400 miles, in sport mode, ours sounds nothing like that video...every now and then when I let off the throttle from high revs in a low gear, with the windows down, I can hear a little bit of a very low gurgle....just barely

***hey JCWCM***what exhaust are you going with? I am scared to pull the trigger w/o hearing one. I am drawn to VIP's exhaust as they designed it to work with the existing CMJCW rear valance and exhaust tips....

It's embarassing that Mini's highest "performance" trim line sounds like as you say...a Corolla...
