JCW Dynamic Damper Control on the JCW?
#26
I have the JCW Sport Suspension, along with 19" wheels, on my Clubman. We have put a lot of miles on it and never had an uncomfortable ride. When you set the car in a corner it has a very comfortable feeling. Full disclosure, I have never driven DDC, but certainly not unhappy w/o it. Maybe i don't know what I am missing.

I had the factory Sport Suspension on my 2014 JCW Coupe and the Dynamic Dampers on my 2020 JCW Clubman and I'll take the DD all day long. In the Sport mode it handles as well as my Coupe (allowing for the added weight and length of course) but on rougher roads the Regular mode is great. The Sport suspension could get a little "harsh" lol. The GP's suspension is nothing like the factory Sport Suspension either. The GP has different dampers/springs and is lowered too.

I have DDC on my 2017 JCW. First, I do not concur with the statement above since it has never been corroborated with data from MINI. My impression after driving cars with and without DDC is that DDC in normal mode is slightly more comfortable than the standard sports suspension, but not much. In sports mode, I find DDC to be incredibly harsh similar to having overly stiff dampers. My solution was to install a 25mm RSB and keep the DDC in normal mode (can be done in the settings) even though I always drive in sports mode. The result is better than stock handling, but not an overly harsh ride.
The DDC has two settings and it is only configurable in SPORT:
- 10% softer than the stock suspension (not the sport suspension, which is 30% stiffer) in GREEN/MID modes
- 10% stiffer than stock in SPORT only and again, you can go soft or hard in SPORT. Good for if you want the responsiveness of SPORT but have to deal with crappy roads
