Tool kit

Did you guys get a jack, tire wrench with your JCW? My dealer says that it doesn't come with it?

Nope, very minimal tool kit these days. MINI spent the money on Roadside Assistance and "free" 36k mile maintenance instead.

Jacks only come with cars that come with spare tires.

Only the Coopers are getting kits these days (except on the Countryman/Paceman, where run flats are standard). You can technically order the kit and it will fit under the floor in the boot, but the jack is pretty basic and most likely expensive for what you get.

Speaking of jacks, does anyone know where the jack points are located on the 3 dr hatch? I usually carry a jack with me on trips...might help if I knew where to position it?

The manual has a diagram. They are located about a couple inches away from the wheels.

Thanks, but those are the jacking points for when using stock MINI jack right? I don't have one that I know of (I'll have to look again in the boot).....but, they don't want me changing my own wheel/tire!

I was talking about the lift points underneath the car like when lifting with a hydraulic jack or car lift.

My 2014 Roadster S came from the factory with a jack; but of course no spare.

Same points. I've seen them using at the dealership.

Here in the UK I have purchased an adaptor that fits into the jacking points for a trolley jack to protect the plastic trim, it looks like an ice hockey puck with a rectangular block on top. This means that the weight is taken on the solid part of the sill and not the plastic trim. Have a look on Ebay.

Is this particular to the MINI or is it a generic jack point protector?

Jack pads https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2015-...20A/ES2714952/

My '07 came with the full complement of tools including jack, and it didn't have a spare either. My '15 only comes with two tow hooks. If I had thought about it at the time I would have pulled the tool tray from my R56 and kept it for the F. Mistakenly assumed they would be similarly equipped. At least if you have the jack and lug wrench there's always the option of carrying a spare in the boot for long trips.

Wetsvette- Thanks but think I might cut up a hockey puck for $1! As far as the tool kit goes I'm thinking of buying the insert from ECS tuning for the Justa and getting a used jack. I think the one from the 2003 on should fit - has the same part # except it has a (-5) at the end. This way should be able to get the whole thing for $60 (or the price of 4 mounting points!)

I'm probably going to get a set of the jack pads since they can be permanently installed. They will work better if using jack stands or a lift too. I'll keep an eye out for a used tool kit also. In my shop I use a polyurethane disc on my floor jack, but my jack stands have a concave shape to them. With the jack pads that shouldn't pose a problem.

On Ebay search for BMW jacking point protector, it has a 25mm X 55mm block at least 14mm high to make sure the weight is not taken by the plastic recess.

Honestly I've jacked and install sway bars, modded sypension and I've just stuck a cedar shingle or 2 under the jack point. It still looks fine. They are clearly very strong and done not crush with a 1000lb load.

Looking at the ECS Tuning Pad set I wonder if they are indeed for the F56 when I input 2015 JCW? They appear to have a peg for insertion into a hole & there is no hole in the stock recess on the jacking points on the F56...just a recessed rectangle. Having pads to use on all 4 corners when using my lift would be better than using 4 hockey pucks....I use those all the time on my floor jack. ECS also makes an aluminum base to insert into the lift point when only using a floor jack. Might a little pricey to get everything but it makes sense (the extra separation from the rocker covers is good insurance)...I just want to make sure they are the proper pieces for an F56 3 Dr Hatch.

Do you know? I guess I can just call ECS too.

I can't say from personal experience but this site lists cars for that part number. Click on "Show" under product fitment/applications.

Interestingly though, it looks like the edges of the jacking point on the car take all the load. There is no way that centre piece would carry the weight.
Maybe just a hockey puck is all you need? and maybe that piece that sticks up on the Ebay hockey puck thingy is just to locate it so it does not slide around..... I think the edges are designed to take the weight of the car the more I look at this. :-)

In addition and just to be clear - both my F56's came with those already on the car. I assume it is the same for you guys?

These look like the 4 stock jacking points already installed on the car. Surely, these don't take the load of lifting the car without another piece inserted into the recess.

Thats the jack point that comes up.

You can use the jack pad insert for a lift or floor jack. Please use a additional jack stand under the additional lifting point marked in the manual. Don't just trust a floor jack on its own and crawl under.

I would think the best way to use an automotive lift would be to have four (4) of those jack point insertion plugs then (like for use with a floor jack)? That's pricey.

I can't believe the dealers simply lift at all four points with the lift arms & nothing to protect those plastic jack points.

I keep a plug kit and 12v air compressor under the back in mine. I don't have a spare so the jack won't do me much good. The plug kit and air helped me out twice in my old mini s and got me to a tire repair shop.
