Options and thoughts on Tires / Tyres

Heyas,

I've done a few searches and see a lot of talk about wheels.

What are peoples thoughts on tires on the Mini 18" wheels?

205/40R18 is factory fitted,

thoughts on 215/40R18 and fitment quality?

Seems both these sizes are a little limited in options.

Looking for thoughts and feedback on others experiences.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports have the best reviews and user feedback, however, they are hard to find and $$$$$$$.

Having a 13 JCW hatch with MORE than a lot of work done I use 12mm spacers to clear front brakes (no spacers in rear) with 7.5x17 Rota RBs with 45 offset running 235/40/17 Sumitomo hi-perf tires. Car is lowered 2" all around. NO RUBBING-NO SCRAPING-NO BOTTOMING. Keep to stock style back spacing and use good measuring skills, not twice but thrice and you won't need any alignments or rear camber adjustments. My ride has STANCE.

I have decided to keep the OEM run flats and continue to research options for a better tire. I really do like the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but they are so expensive and hard to get in this area that I am waiting to see what alternatives may become available. I really don't want to mess with spacers, but I may add minimal ones to allow 18 215 40s to be installed. I was really set to purchase the 205s and see how they performed, but changed my mind and we may get some input from fellow mini drivers when we attend the MOTD. Michelin onsite will be there as well and we may be able to pick their brains while we are there as well as other knowledgeable individuals.

I'm in total agreement with you on the tire issue. I'll run my Pirelli P7's until they need replacement, and by that time I should know what tire to go with. I may even stay with the 205's, but 215's might be a viable option for sure. I'm fine with the 18" cup spoke wheels, as they are obviously "meant" for this JCW build! Custom fitment is great imo!

As for Pirelli, I admit to a bit of nostalgia here, since my first BMW (1985 318i) came with Pirelli P6 Centurato's....and Pirelli is the tire for F1, and their calendars are awesome! :-) The run flats might not be the best, but overall Pirelli is a great tire! It looks and sounds "fast" anyway...LOL!

the yoko v105s come in a 205 as well, and as far as I understand it the 7" wheel wont need any spacing with the 215s.

I am also a Pirelli fan we have had them on several vehicles over the years. I still have a set on my truck that are the best mixed use tires I have ever had. A local dealer suggested them years ago and I have stuck with them as they provide on the farm (off road) grip and are great for a 4WD heavy diesel truck, but a good riding tire and durable. I have not excluded them from my mini list, but as of now the Michelins are still the front runner.

I have never had Hankook, but there are a few fans in some of the clubs around here. I will try and glean some information from them at our next cars and coffee event.

The limitation I have is Australian stockists. I had to find something I didn't need to import (in case of a blowout, or the need to buy 5 at at time etc).
Hopefully once these are worn out our local distributors have started stocking more options.
Cheers for the advice. I like the look of those Hankooks

There is not a lot of options here either unless you want to use wheel spacers and I am not a fan of them either. I am waiting and hoping that more 18" aftermarket wheels will be offered that may allow at least the use of minimally larger tires without the need for spacers or altering the trim. At least be able to use 215s.
