JCW Anyone add an LSD yet?

I definitely like the Wavetrac in the snow. My experience with their product on my last car was definitely a consideration when picking the diff for this one. In slush and ice, it'll keep both wheels spinning with minimal traction control intervention...definitely helpful when taking off in yucky weather conditions compared with the heavy brake action you get otherwise.

My R56 is in the shop at G3 Automotive Solutions right now; about to get the Quaife installed along w/an OSG STR1C. I can't wait. Chris at G3 is going to do a write up, being I'm the first MINI Owner in greater Raleigh NC area to have one installed. I'll keep NAM posted

Matt, glad to see you're enjoying the LSD. I agree it's one of those mods that is very noticeable. Both Wavetrac and Quaife are reputable LSD manufacturers, so the difference between the two might be negligible. After driving with this for over almost a month, I'd say the 2 most important mods for the F56 are an LSD and an ECU power module.

Any chance to know type, brand and quantity of the differential oil?
I have just ordered the Quaife LSD but I did not have the chance to add replacement bearings and have no clue what is better for the LSD, use the OEM differential oil or an aftermarket?
If one of the forum members that actually did the swap and knows something about it, I will appreciate the info.

Finally, I could have the time to make a LSD DYS swap.
I took most of the info from here: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...-transmission/
I did not have the PN of the bearings so I decided to remove the OEM ones and purchase a new ones in a local parts shop.
Most important info: both bearings are the same and the brand is KOYO LM503310
Attached you will find a few pictures from the task
I hope this could help for another users that buy the LSD without bearings (Outmotoring did not sell it).

Do it yourself!
If you have any mechanical inclination, the diff really isn't that hard to do yourself. The Focus ST has an almost identical Getrag transmission, which uses the same Quaife ATB diff. I used the following thread as a very helpful guide.
http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-s...uaife-lsd.html
I intended to reset the preload on mine using Ford shims following the process for the Focus ST, but I just ran out of time and only replaced the inside races and rolling elements of the diff bearings. It's been running great and no noise coming from the transmission!
This will save you a pretty penny and doesn't seem to be very common knowledge that the Focus ST shares such a similar tranny.

Has anyone with the Wavetrac or Quaife LSD coded out the electronic diff braking? Can that be defeated by turning off DSC and traction control?
#64
I don't think turning DSC/TCS off turns the E-Diff all the way off. TBQH, though, I've not felt the sort of noticeable heavy brake intervention you get when a wheel lets loose on a stock car outside of snow and ice conditions since I've had the Wavetrac installed. I've seen the light flash under some circumstances (WOT in 2nd in the wet, WOT out of a roundabout, WOT from a stop into a 90 degree turn, etc.) but don't actually ever feel brake intervention under those circumstances anymore. On a wet road with full spin, they'll just keep spinning until you let off the gas even with DSC/TCS on.

BTW, I found and adjusted a C_Funktion_Differenzialsperre_aktiv. coding paramter, which disables the eLSD, and have found that to be very helpful in avoiding the electronic nannies interfering with the diff under some annoying circumstances.

I know it's an old thread but could you please share the exact coding and the location of the coding? And could this be done with Bimmercode? Thanks a bunch...looking into ordering Wavetrac LSD for my 2019 f56 JCW.

1) If you have a Gen3 under warranty the WaveTrac uses the same type Diff Fluid so the dealer won't have to be told to put in a Diff Oil with Friction Modifiers as with a Quaife
2) The WaveTrac supposedly transfers power even with a wheel lifted
3) The WaveTrac doesn't have LSD Friction Plates to deal with
Either way, I think BOTH pretty much negate the eLSD from interfering with driveability IMO
Mine has performed flawless in it's first 9 AutoXs in 2019

That's great to hear, I'm looking into getting the WaveTrac myself for my 2019 JCW - quick question, did you disable eLSD and could you share how/which code? If yes, what did you use to code it, Bimmercode or something else like that Schwaben scanner/coder one (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...020sch01a~scf/)? And if it can be coded out is there a way to gradually lower the function of eDIF from let's say max 3 setting for maximum intervention to something like 2 or 1 for less of intervention or 0 to completely off?
As a side note...if the eLSD sometimes would come into the picture (which I doubt), it would only help ...maybe
Another side note...Neither the Quaife nor Wavetrac require LSD Oil with friction modifiers

eLSD definitely still comes in if it detects front wheel slip differences between left and right, but since the real diff is doing the majority of the work it's much less noticeable, and if you drive within the limits of what the car can do it might even be totally inactive. If you drive like a total ******* you can still make it cook the brakes, source: me, I drove like a ******* and the eLSD cooked the brakes trying to keep the car in line while I lead footed it around the course.

With all this talk about how magical a mechanical LSD is, I don't think I can resist anymore. Looks like that's my next investment.
For those of you who have been there and done that, what other miscellaneous items have you done while you were in there? Besides the clutch of course, I know I should do that as I'm approaching 50k miles and it would be silly not to, but were there any bearings or seals you did at the same time?
