New JCW need pop & bang

Hi, just got my new 2023 JCW yesterday and thinking of making it pop & bang. Any suggestion.

Trade it in and buy a 2016?

My understanding is there isn't a way to make the new LCI2 cars "pop and bang".

2017, mine pops and burbles like crazy!!

Looks like they retuned the latter models to NOT waste gas on the exhaust side.

Say whaaaa

My 2022 JCW clubman doesn’t pop or crackle at all when downshifting. It does fart when it upshifts.

Do you have it in sport mode? I've found that my 2019, doesn't really pop or anything unless I put it in sport. "regular" drive mode, no pops or bangs.

Also depending on the downshift it will do pops and bangs more too....

Apparently, the 2020 and newer ones, those with the higher powered engines (over 300 HP) have been re-tuned to not have so much "over-run". Over-run is when the fuel injectors are allowed to squirt a bit of un-needed fuel into the exhaust on deceleration. That fuel burning in the exhaust is the "Pop/Bang".

My 2019 with an NM Engineering exhaust pops and bangs with no hesitation.

Correct…. Waiting for a tune which enables this wasteful and rude behavior!

Reading it looks like 2015-2019 cars had this, and from 2020 on the tune was revised to introduce rev hang and eliminate the rich environment which led to the crackle.

Exhaust will help like JCW Tuning kit, but yes the return to eliminate the some of the pops and bangs.

Before when they did this in the R56 it was because of people complaining of noises, then they brought it back.

I saw a white 2023 on Reddit mostly similar to OP, that momentarily made me think about trading in my 2019. But as I listed the things I love about my MINI, pops & bangs in Sport mode are high on the list, something I know I'd miss badly. Too bad MINI can't add a selectable option to the OBC menu, like so many other features. Doesn't seem it should have to be all or nothing.

My new 2023 JCW 6spd will let out the occasional pop and burble in sport mode, not as easily or often as the pre LCI cars but it's not completely gone.

All you need is a cheap ENET OBD2 to Ethernet adapter for BMW (i got a $17 one of of Amazon) and a Windows 7 or above computer. Within 30 minutes he was done flashing the ECU. It's not cheap at around $280 after euro conversion, but well worth it for me and JCW Pro exhaust. Nothing else is changed on the ECU. Plus I can turn the pops\burble's off when in Comfort or Green mode

Beautiful spec. Enjoy. You need to code out the OPF filters using Esys I believe to get the burbles. Could probably pay around $100 to have someone do it for you remotely if you buy the Esys adapter. A high performance downpipe will also help with this.

Great color combo. I wanted to order the same for my 24 but couldn't get the sport seats in that color.

@launaldo Are you aware of the specific modifications that were made? Was it related to coding options, or did they make changes to the ignition tables? I'm curious to understand, as far as I know, ECU/DME units from September 2020 onwards are typically restricted from being reprogrammed.

It was done by a guy from Italy via teamviewer. To me, it was just plug & play. It only took 15 from turn on the laptop to finish. I didn't see anything what he did on my screen.

I just picked up a 2024 Hardtop JCW and I miss the pops and bangs that my 2012 had too. Does anyone know if the JCW Pro Exhaust alone without the tune would give us the pops and bangs?
