My 2019 with an NM Engineering exhaust pops and bangs with no hesitation.

Reading it looks like 2015-2019 cars had this, and from 2020 on the tune was revised to introduce rev hang and eliminate the rich environment which led to the crackle.

Exhaust will help like JCW Tuning kit, but yes the return to eliminate the some of the pops and bangs.
Before when they did this in the R56 it was because of people complaining of noises, then they brought it back.

I saw a white 2023 on Reddit mostly similar to OP, that momentarily made me think about trading in my 2019. But as I listed the things I love about my MINI, pops & bangs in Sport mode are high on the list, something I know I'd miss badly. Too bad MINI can't add a selectable option to the OBC menu, like so many other features. Doesn't seem it should have to be all or nothing.

All you need is a cheap ENET OBD2 to Ethernet adapter for BMW (i got a $17 one of of Amazon) and a Windows 7 or above computer. Within 30 minutes he was done flashing the ECU. It's not cheap at around $280 after euro conversion, but well worth it for me and JCW Pro exhaust. Nothing else is changed on the ECU. Plus I can turn the pops\burble's off when in Comfort or Green mode

Beautiful spec. Enjoy. You need to code out the OPF filters using Esys I believe to get the burbles. Could probably pay around $100 to have someone do it for you remotely if you buy the Esys adapter. A high performance downpipe will also help with this.

@launaldo Are you aware of the specific modifications that were made? Was it related to coding options, or did they make changes to the ignition tables? I'm curious to understand, as far as I know, ECU/DME units from September 2020 onwards are typically restricted from being reprogrammed.
