Hi

I have a MINI Cooper with the JCW sound kit.
This include:
- JCW Air box
- JCW Exhaust
- JCW special engine management software

Now I want to replace the JCW Air filter for a K&N/Pipercross or other "open" Air filter.

My friend fitted one today and the sound is awsome Much better sound compared to the JCW Air filter (closed air box). I think a open air filter makes a much better sound.

My question is:

Can I replace the JCW air filter without any problem? Is the JCW software optimized for working with the JCW air filter? Is it possible to replace the air filter without causing any problem? Will the JCW software works with the new ait filter?
Dont want to damage the car by using a different air filter

 

Won't make a bit of difference. . . switch to whatever intake you like

 

I think the JCW air filter is a Pipercross.

Is it a cone filter in a closed box or a panel filter in a closed box? So it dont make sense to replace it with a open filter?

 

After looking at this link for my 04 it shows a closed flat panel filter. This is a nice link for researching whats on you car.
