SOLD! - FS: 4 Brand New 2005 17" S-Lites with 205/45/R17 Pirelli Euphori@s

SOLD!

I have a set of four brand spanking new 17" silver S-Lites with Pirelli Euphori@ 205/45/R17 performance Run Flat tires (and MINI center caps) for sale that were just taken off our brand new 2005 MCS (the car only had 10 miles on it when the wheels were taken off at the dealership and it still only has 90 miles on it now just to show you how new they are ). The wheels are already all boxed up and ready for shipping, or local pickup in So Cal is fine.

I'm asking $625 for the set (plus actual shipping costs). The S-Lite rims normally sell for $225 each from the dealer and the tires are $165 each from TireRack.com (that's $1,560 for the set retail!). Here are some pics of the wheels (the rims have absolutely no scratches or flaws of any kind on them nor do the tires as they are all brand spanking new):

EDIT 02/28/05: Updated/lowered asking price.

You will need to post a price or you WILL get low-balled on your wheels! Mini enthusiasts on this site know S-lites are heavy rims with heavy runflat tires and are a dime-a-dozen now that they have been available for almost 3 years now on the Cooper S. These 17" wheels are a $600 stand alone option on the MCS. I recommend pricing them at $695 OBO if you really want to move them. Good luck! We would love to see a pic of the new wheels/tires that you installed as well...

speltzer,

Thanks for the info and tips. I knew that it was coming.

I didn't list a price because I don't have one set in stone yet and I'm in no rush to sell them. I've actually been considering holding on to them as spares because I don't mind the run flats and when the ones I'm using finally give out, it's going to cost me more to replace them than I can sell these rims and tires together for. I realize that I can replace the run flats with cheaper non-run flat tires, but the car belongs to my wife and I don't feel comfortable having her drive around on non-run flats without a spare tire (neither of us find the run flats to be harsh, and they handle more than fine for anything she's ever going to do with the car - or me for that matter). Thus, I thought that I'd just leave the price open for now and see if anyone wanted to make a fair offer on them.

I realize that the S-Lites have been around for a while now and so they are quite common, but from my research, it's not too easy to find a set of four BRAND new S-Lites with brand new tires having near zero miles on them for sale. Most of the ones I see all have some sort of curb damage on them and the tires already have many thousand miles on them (or else folks are selling just the rims without the tires). Thus, in my eyes, they are still worth something. I'm not thinking anything even close to full retail for them (as I know I'd never get that - I only listed it so folks have an idea of their worth), but I do think they have some value in their current state. Besides that, I think that the S-Lites are a great looking wheel, and as for the weight of the rims goes, 99% of all MINI drivers would never be able to tell the difference in their cars with the S-Lites over some other similiar 17" wheel running the same tires, so that argument is just plain silly in my humble opinion (no offense to you though).

Also, you are correct that the S-Lites sell for $600 from the factory, but what you failed to mention is that the $600 price tag you spoke of is just an UPGRADE price. Thus, you still have to take into consideration that you are paying for the stock 16" rims and run flat tires in the price of the car and then you are paying the additional $600 on top of that just to UPGRADE the rims and tires to the 17" versions. So, you're definitely paying a lot MORE than $600 for them from the factory.

As for the wheels that replaced the S-Lites on my wife's MCS, I was lucky enough to get a hold of a set of brand new 17" 5-spoke Bullet wheels off of an MCSC and that's what replaced the S-Lites.

Thanks again!

All things considered, it boils down to supply and demand. Right now there is abundant supply and a fairly low demand for s-lites. Granted, if one were in the market for an s-lite/tire combo, yours would be premier.

Might I suggest searching closed s-lite/tire auctions on Ebay over the last year and survey both the condition of the sold wheels/tires and the closing price? Your set would definitely be on the high side of the range.

And if the high side of the range is much lower that you think, don't consider that an insult or a "low-ball" figure; it is a product of supply and demand and really does represent the true value of your wheels/tires regardless of what you paid for them.

Remember, if you can't part with them (in principle) because the market value is way below what you expect, you can always hang on to them!

FWIW,

Theo

I'd say about $600 is about average for a set of take-off S-lites. I would also say that there isn't much difference between 0 miles and a few hundred miles, provided they're burnout free, lol.

Hi Theo,

Very well said and I completely agree with you.

I've actually never set a price on the wheels. I simply stated what they would cost if you had to pay for a new set outright. I'm not exactly sure what I want for them at this point, but I am sure that it wouldn't be anything close to their expected retail value of around $1,560. Ouch!

If I can't get what I feel is a fair price for them, I don't mind hanging on to them. I really like the looks of the S-Lites and (as I already stated) it will cost me more to replace the run flat tires on my wife's car once they wear out than I can probably get selling these brand new ones for together with the rims. Ultimately her tires will wear out and I'll need to buy new ones (she'll keep the run flats as the car doesn't have a spare and so I wouldn't want her driving without them).

Anyway, thanks for your input.

I think that $600 is a bit too low... If the tires had some miles on them and the rims had a small amount of curbage, then I feel that $600 would indeed be a fair price. However, in their current (as new) state, I think that they're worth a bit more. I don't think that I'd be willing to sell them for much less than $800 (as I think that's a fair price). Anything less than that, and I feel that they'd be worth more to me to just hang on to them as spares.

Thanks for your feedback.

As I mentioned to Ryephile above, I'd like to get $800 for the set (I've now updated the price in the original post).

Thanks for your interest.

I personally feel you are asking a fair price for the set, and if I were on the left coast, I would probably take advantage of the offer.

I am, however, all the way over here on the right coast, and the UPS people would want ~$100 (or more) to do their thing.

Thought of eBay?

Yeah, I'll probably put them up on eBay next. I'm still deciding if I want to hang on to them or not though. My wife will probably need new tires in a couple of years and so I'll have to buy her new runflats then (I won't let her drive without the runflats since the car doesn't have a spare). The problem is that it will cost me more for the new tires than I'm selling these brand new rims and tires for together. Thus, I'm still considering hanging on to them at this point. The only problem is that they take up a whole lot of garage space in the giant boxes I have them stored in right now.

Thanks for your reply...

You'll be lucky to get 600. Watch the auctions on ebay. Doesn't matter what the dealer gets for them, you're not a dealer. Truth is, these are about the most undesirable wheels available for a MINI. They weigh a ton! And, there's LOTS of them on the market. If you can't bear the reality of the value, find a hole to stuff 'em in and just sit on 'em! Sorry to be so blunt but it's just the facts.

Maybe you're right, but if what I'm asking for the wheel set bothers you so much then DON'T READ THE THREAD! No need to respond with unnecessary comments. For $600 I'll definitely hold on to them as the tires alone are worth more to me than that. Besides, I never said that I was a dealer nor did I say that I wanted anything close to what they cost from the dealer. I think that what I'm asking is a fair price for the wheels. If they sell then that's great, and if they don't, then I won't cry about it either.

Thanks for your feedback though.

Uhm... Opinions are just like ...

maybe I had better not go there.

I'm a guy that gives the to the S-lites. I like 'em.

And just like anything else, the value of something is what someone is willing to pay. For $700 plus UPS is beyond my budget, but I think $700 is a fair price for (almost) virgin wheels/tires.

I feel your pain with this sale, in more ways then one

If I was you I'd hang onto them. Folks here are right and it'll be tough getting what you want out of them, even though I agree with the Rev that your price is fair considering the condition of your product. I have seen a few sets go for around what you are asking on eBay, but they seem to be far and few, and mainly the white s-lites. Since you're looking to stay with the runflats, then it makes more sense holding onto them.

Of course this is from the person with 5.25 sets of rims stored away Yes I bought just one wheel, I know I have a problem Oh and good luck keeping the current tires on the car "for a few years". I'm on my 3rd set of skins in less then 2.5 years, with just over 54,000 miles.

Not to Hijack, but............

I've had a collection of bugs.

A 1969 and 1973 vert, also 73 Squareback and just got rid of a 71 Gia vert

Oh, did you mean the crawly type???

I'm looking for a specialist that handles Rim Fetishes. You know us folks here in the South can't resist shiny and sparkly stuff, why do you think Bass boats come with metallic paint?

Thanks for your comments, and yes, you're probably right. Thanks to a reader of these forums who PM'ed me, I may have a line on someone who wants them. However, even if it doesn't work out, I don't mind hanging on to them for a while. If it comes down to it, I'll probably just dismount the tires from the rims, hang on to them for when our other ones give out, and then sell just the S-Lite rims all by themselves for a lower amount.

Thanks again...
