With a powder coated reciever that's invisable when the hitch is removed.
I rate these at 100lb tongue load and 1000lb trailer wt. available indivigually
or in quantity. Karl at ph # 518-477-9752

I've seen one of Karl's hitches on an MCS out at Putnam Park in June of this year. It's a very nice design looks like it will indeed be completely invisible when detached from the car. It isn't as pretty as the MINI-Fini sportlink, but that isn't invisible when removed, either (and requires cutting the bumper! eek!)
How much, Karl?

Karl's Hitch
Karl, are these still correct ?
Early versions were painted. This one is on a 2003 MCS that belongs to a friend of mine.

photo off of car
I don't know what Karl's bracket looks like now. He has redesigned it to work on an MC or an MCS.
This photo is of the MCS type and is from September 2003.

Hopefully Karl will post new photos.

Hi, Karl here, thanks to John for posting the picture. For answers to ??? I would pick up the phone, just like in the old days. 518-477-9752
Detailed photos will not be sent out. You can jack the rear wheels off the ground with a jack under the ***** thread. you be the judge of wheather or not it will carry you sneakers. only about a dozen left before I close out production. Now selling for $575 Karl Pay Pal ok by me

You know, if this hitch were priced realistically, you could sell as many as you could make. As it stands, though, you have designed a very nice little custom hitch which should sell for maybe 1/4 what you are charging. I wish you the best of luck, but, no sale here.

Just my $0.02: compare this to the price of the MINI-FINI system sold through the dealers and it's actually competitively priced. The price of steel has been high lately and this was a low-production item.
Since none of the major hitch manufacturers make a hitch for the S, we're going to have to pay more than average for a hitch...
I have read and if you have a Cooper you can go down to your local hitch installer an off-the-shelf hitch easily - but show up with an S and they'll just shrug...
Personally, I'm not crazy about this solution because it's there all the time - I like the Mini-fini solution better because it's removable. If I had the money I would get the Mini-Fini system with the bike rack and the hitch...
I've read that Mini-fini is out of business and now this guy is stopping production. Seems like the law of supply and demand is at work here...

with 2 bolts and is removable just like the MINI Fini.
You are probably right about the supply and demand aspect here. I hope the supply side catches up soon.

Trailer hitch
When I was looking around for a hitch in the spring of 2004, I liked the MINIFINI but the towlink was not available yet.
I made my own that works in a similar fashion. I have hauled my small trailer over a thousand miles since then. Great to pick up stuff at the "home supplies" store, or take my tent, and other gear on outings.

If you can use a hack saw, an electric drill and a welder, you can make one in a few hours for $20 worth of raw materials.

My receivers show, and I cover them with Crutch tips when not in use, but you could make it with them recessed.

Another mystery solved! John, I have a pic of your car and trailer in my screensaver file (a bunch of MINI pics that I've saved from here and MINI2.com) and recently I wondered who's setup this was...
Your car is the same color as mine, I already told my wife that I'm repainting our trailer like yours... :-)
My trailer is a little bigger - it's the 4x8 folding trailer that Harbor Freight sells...
So did you make the whole thing yourself, or you had the mini-fini receiver installed and then made your own hitch setup?
