Nelson Ledges fun day
Anybody up for doing a fun day at Nelson Ledges? I'm thinking about going on Fri. Sept 5th. It's always more fun with a few MINI's to chase around.

I want to go, but it looks like I won't be able to until October. If that is still possible.
I'm thinking of these dates....
Saturday Sept 20 & or Saturday Oct 25
A pretty reliable source has told me that Nelson has been sold & will be completely redone. While this seems like good news at first it probably isn't for most of us. The plan is to make it a country club kind of track & sell memberships. The days of the cheap track day may already be over.

WoooHoooo!!! I don't care WHAT they do, as long as they repave the track so its even all around and get rid of that GAWD AWFUL excuse for a bridge leading to the paddock.

Thanks for the kind words & your understanding on the immanent loss of one of my favorite tracks.
I've got to tell you Jeff, the bridge going into the paddock isn't even used if one gets to the track on time. It's only used by those who came late & left early. Well it is also used by those who drove hard enough to burn all their gas by the lunch break. Also that bridge & the condition of the pavement had nothing to do with your past experiences at Nelson.
Does this mean we won't see you at the next LAME track day at Nelson?

As I recall we had to use the bridge because we were late. Don't know how that happened.
Worst part for me is the pit toilets. But as Babs says "They always work & I've never seen a broken one".

Actually, I'd love to see that Cleveland BMW CCA buy Nelson and make it into the course it used to be, again. And, their driving school rates [at least this year for a 2-day school] were QUITE reasonable @ $260.

Gee, I'm so happy you are concerned about my lap times...I'm sure not. I'd just rather get around that course without shaking my car apart....

I wish I could buy Nelson's....I love that place and I imagine it would be a pretty fun and fulfilling job to take on.
I'd even give you guys some free memberships
I'm with Crashton though, I hope they keep the same grassroots atmosphere that its always had.

The never ending story....
Jeff I rode in your car with you & the car wasn't shaking apart, no way no how. Like I said earlier the track conditions had nothing to do with your on track experience. Blame the track if it makes you feel better, but you & I both know the truth of what really went on there. We are friends so I don't want to talk about that here. Let's just leave it at that.

Ohh, don't worry, Big Fella...air it out if ya wanna. It doesn't matter to me at all...especially since I don't plan to go back there, anyway.

I'll leave the airing of your track exploits to you. We figured out last November that you would never be back again. I'm very sorry you feel that way, it IS a fun track to drive on.

I agree that it's a fun track...just not for me...yet. I'm not putting you nor the track down, ok? You enjoy it, and that's what matters. As for me not enjoying it, I guess it's something I'll keep working on....well, it's why I went to Putnam while most others went to Mid-Ohio in August. I needed the help of the instructor I had had in the Spring and we worked on turn-ins, apexes and learning the line; next time I'll see about adding more speed even though my lap times did improve after I learned [and got more confident with] the previously-mentioned stuff. I guess that, for me, it will take some time, since I've never raced or done autocrossing. Oh well...so be it, but I WILL learn, and THEN I'll come back [AFTER I get a GPS to find the damned place]! Maybe then I'll be able to enjoy a full day of driving and getting better at it.

Good luck to you my friend. More seat time & instruction is what you need to build your confidence. From what I've observed you have the skill set, but no confidence in those skills. Only when you have that confidence will you be able to enjoy the experience. Then you'll be on track smiling & having fun. If it wasn't fun I sure wouldn't do it.

I passed on going to Nelson's on Sept. 5th because of rain. I decided to reschedule and go on Sept 19th or Sept 20th. Anybody up for those dates?
Yes, it needs repaved. But, hey where else can you run that fast for that cheap?
Here's some youtube links to a couple of videos I shot there last year.

I'll probably swing by on the 19th to snap some photos. I got a new lense I've been meaning to try out at the track. I also haven't been out to mid-ohio OR nelson's yet this year

The latest news on the sale of Nelson is that it hasn't happened yet. The scuttlebutt is that some sort of impasse has been reached. What that means is the schedule will run for the rest of this year.
I'm thinking I'm either going Oct 24 or 25.
Rally I hope you can make it then. I need a top notch lensman.
