Good Motoring in Detroit Metro Area
#1
Previously, "Letsmotor" asked about good places/roads to motor in the Detroit Area.
Last week, I found a great road! "Belle River Road", from Almont to Memphis (heading east), is as good a road as any I've found so far. Farmland, but with abundant "S" turns and other twisties. Also plenty of passing areas (an absolute must!).
Almont is north of Detroit, on M53 (Van Dyke Ave). Actually, it's not Belle River Road all the way to Memphis. You take Belle River Rd out of Almont til it ends at Capac Road, turn right to Pratt Road, where you turn left and motor into Memphis.
There are probably a lot of other choices in that area, but that is the one I specifically drove last week and it was great!
Although I won't get to them now until Spring, I'd love to hear about other roads in the area for great motoring!

I'm over in Ann Arbor myself, and always looking out for good roads. I'm on my motorcycle often during summer, so I plan on taking it along some of the roads I normally take. One suggestion around here is Huron River Drive, West of Ann Arbor. Great scenery, no stop signs or lights, a little choppy in a few spots, but not bad overall. Great curves, great views, little traffic. Now all I need is my MCS to arrive at the end of the month or early January.

Huron river drive is great road in winter, hell in summer coz of the pesky cyclists. Talking of Hell out that way there are some good roads - by silver lake, (lawrence county I think). The vehicle manufacturers use these roads for vehicle development
Early sunday am is good but watch out for the 5 0 as this was where I got my first Mi ticket

I gotta say, I feel real sorry for the few, salt-infested MINIs I see being driven (motored?) around right now. I can't imagine how those poor things are gonna look in a few years. And is it just me, or is there a TON of salt being used this year? It seems to be on the roads for weeks after any need for it, throwing up the white cloud of corrosion.

Well, it's almost that time of year again. The recent thaw and re-freeze we experienced last week has played havoc with the roads once again! My commute to work includes Union Lake Rd, which was quickly becoming a total wreck. The potholes are so huge that you can see them easily and drive around them    I really wish they'd at least broom off the little loose rocks of asphalt to the shoulder so everyone doesn't spray them around with their tires   Bad Road Commission, BAD!
