Chitown Shots: No MINIs

I was in the Windy City a couple of weekends ago for the Auto Show (which was humongous). Aside from getting in shots of the show, I did manage to snap off a few touristy pics.

My first morning there I awoke to a pretty good sunrise over Lake Michigan.

(shot through hotel window)

Of course, I had to get the ubiquitous Cloud Gate pic, despite the lake windchill.

Several steps down from The Bean are the Crown Fountain video towers. For obvious reasons, the fountain wasn't spouting (which allowed for this view).

I did manage to self-impose a mission to get pics of my favorite Chicago architectural beauty, the John Hancock Tower. (Always gotta look out for falling ice spears! )

Off Michigan Avenue sets an interesting sculpture, seemingly, in reverence to Big John.

Chicago is "My Kind of Town!"

P/S: I'll try to post Auto Show pics later.

I really like that pic I haven't had the chance to get to Millenium Park to see that in person. I really like the b/w effect

Were you able to snap a pic of the MINI dragster at the Show? More, more, more please

Sure did! I'll post those later.

I chose the black and white effect because of the blustery weather.
Millenium Park is bustling during summer but a great place for pix during a Chicago winter. (white stuff didn't appear 'til later in the day.)

Which day did you go? I was at the show with CMMC on 2/11. It sounds like we were there on the same day! The snow came down crazy that afternoon . I got a couple of pics myself... but they definitely won't look like yours. Did you use a digital SLR ? Very nice More please

I was there as yous guys walked onto the MINIUSA exhibit!
(Perhaps you're in one of the crowd shots I got.) I tried to blend in since there were certain types of pics I needed to get.)

The remainder of my weekend there I spent in Alsip, one of the southern suburbs.

The B&W with the color face pic creeps me out for some reason. I like the shot a lot and it's very memorable.

Nice of them to warn you about the falling ice.

Very nice shots jwardell . I seem to be drawn to the b/w shots the most. I like this shot on LSD. Nice shots from the Air & Water show too.

Excellent work as always, JC! I really like that 2nd Hancock shot.

Did you decolorize that one of the 50' face? Mine looks similar, but yours seems to be less saturated away from the monitor.

A few of my own, some from two weeks before (is it *always* this grey there?):

And finally, the man in action, JC. :-)

The face picture kind of hints at what the future might be like in my mind. Big TV screens with people's faces talking about news or something. Very nice pictures as usual.

Nice pics Brian (forgot to mention that on your original thread )

NOW I remember you jwardell! You were carrying all of your gear/lenses.. I think I may have interfered with a few of your shots by accident while at the Show . Great work guys

that's my dad in the lower left hand corner of the FTR shot... Chowin down on snacks as usual! MiniMac I wonder if we are in any of his photos of the FTR exhibit... I might be famous! Not...

Oh and someone a while back asked if it was always grey in chicago... Well they(Chicago-ans) would be more inclined to answer... but every time I have gone there in the winter time, which is probably about 20-30 times, I believe it has only been sunny five or six times. Now in the summer when I go to every Cubs home game... It's almost always sunny!

Yeah, a few, but nothing special. My FTR pics are tagged with Fireball Tim. I've got some other crowd shots that are not on Flickr, but I didn't think they were good enough to bother uploading. :-)

Hey Mikey,

Just clicked on your gallery to see what you look like and as it turns out, I DO happen to have a couple of pics with you in them. In one, you're very prominent- right up there, shootin' the s**t with FB Tim. I'll try to post Auto Show pics later this week.

oooh all these shots are super cool. Makes me almost want to visit Chicago again. Last time I was there it was a record 130 degrees outside, I fried an egg on the pavement, my sister was 8 months pregnant, the air conditioning was broken and I had a shaved head. Needless to say I didn't get to really see much of the place. (this was in 1995)
