James, you mentioned an origami kit- Where is that from? And how did you find it? The only things that I have from other countries are ads, brochures, postcards and the like but it would be cool to get some other MINI goodies!

Hey Maganoo- my favorite places to scour for magazines are waiting rooms-like the doctors office, the coffee shop, and the library and sometimes the local bookstore has old magazines for sale. Plus you begin to hit up your friends and family and find out what magazines they have subscriptions to and if they will save the MINI ads for you. I also have been known to pay way too much money for some on ebay- I bid fiercely against Ian one time for an ad (a speedway ad) but it's the joy of the hunt that keeps me going!

MINI World Challenge Origami Kit

The origami kit was from the MINI World Challenge, a competition between MINI dealers around the world. Downtown MINI in Orlando either won, or placed very high. Someone from there had an extra origami kit and gave it to me. I think it was stage 6 of the contest, so there are several other World Challenge items out there, but I don't have them or even know what they all are.

Here's my origami kit:

It comes with a pack of colored paper and some instructions inside.

Thanks James for the info! Now we'll all have to be on the lookout for MINI World Challange items!

Here's a question for you all...Does anyone know if MINIUSA has ever produced more than the 4 pc's that everyone seems to have? Other countries seem to have dozens of MINI styles. Wonder why we don't?

I've totally done this too. My grandfather collects Motortrend, and so many of his magazines have MINI ads in them. I can't bring myself to swipe them though as I am sure it would diminsh the value of his colection.

Aloha from Honolulu folks!-

GREAT forum! Now I can show my girlfriend that I'm not all that NUTS and I have company! My collector gig is MINI dealer ad items and collector cars.

A couple of our shopping malls have Ad Walls http://www.adwalls.com/ and I am trying to figure out what happens to the advertisments when they are brought down. Would look great in the garage! Anybody snag one yet?

Aloha!

The Unauthorized Owner's Manual is not an ad but a booklet put out by MINIUSA in '02 or early '03. The hard copy has the toggle switch stickers in the back of it but you can download a copy if you go to MINIUSA's site and go to the owner's lounge and click on the promt to go to the Unauthorized Owner's Manual for your own copy to download- I have seen copies at the dealer but I also requested mine from MINIUSA and they sent me out a copy.

Very interesting site, JCW04. I do wonder what happens to those billboards... It reminds me of the Small thoughts campaign that MINI did this fall at gas stations. I was wondering what happend to those ads as they weren't printed any where else. And if anyone comes across these let us know as I know I would love to have these outdoor ads-big or small!!

While I'm thinking about it and rather than posting again- does anyone know where I can get some older issues of MINI International? I'm missing a couple of issues and haven't had a lot of success finding them- Thankls!

You can order back issues of MINI International. All except #1 are still available the last issue I checked. I have #1 and #7 through #13.

JCW04, what kind of dealer stuff do you have? Do you have a list somewhere?

Here's a fold-out that isn't on the list. I don't know where it came from. Anyone else have it and remember where they got it?

I heard that some owner's got them in their "welcome kit". I got one from the NY car show- I'm not sure if it's still included in the newer welcome kits or not-

Anyone know what's in the convertible welcome kits that isn't in the ones from the past?

you all should check out Crispin Porter+Bogusky's web site(they are the agency responsible for most of the stuff you are talking about). They are owned by Arnold worldwide here in Boston.Anything you are missing might be able to be obtained from them.http://www.cpbmiami.com/

They get a fleece blanket, very cool looking in orange. Don't know if it comes in the welcome kit or if it's in the boot when they pick it up, but I've seen them for sale on eBay.

How fun! Cool Forum!

I have been quite a fan of MINI collectibles since I got my first MINI in 2002... it was an insatiable addiction for a while but of late I've all but stopped collecting (new job - drat!)

Anyway, James and I have long been friends and traded ads though I have to say, James, some of the ads you need, I have and would have been happy to give them to you!!! I even traded a good lot with Ian once! (I still haven't opened my puzzle either Ian, but my friend has one that I think she put together so I'll ask her what was in it - anticlimactic I'm sure!)

Like Annes said, the toggle switch re-labeling kit was in the Unauthorized Owner's Manual, which was later replaced with the Manual of Motoring.

I thought I was a major collector... until I read James' list! Maybe it's a good thing I've been too busy to troll on ebay...

I'll make a list of ads for trade and post it in the other thread.

Wynnonna- you sold ads to me a couple of times. I wondered where you've been. I have been watching as I didn't want to compete with you selling on ebay but you've been quiet. Maybe I'm lucky you got a new job!! So you mentioned first MINI..do you have another one now? Lucky you if you do!!!And are you saying that the collecting bug eventually slows down? My book shelves would probably like that I don't add another binder but it's like an illness for me-

A gathering of eBay buyers & sellers Fun!
I had Wynnonna listed as one of my fave sellers on eBay; maybe I need to change that to Annes now

I like the trading idea too, though the $ is nice

Yes a gathering of MINI ebayers!

I do have a 2nd MINI; the first was a Cooper (CVT) named Annie and my current is an S named Warbucks. First was an 02, current is an 04. The convertible bug, while quite tempting, hasn't taken over me again (yet!).

I still look and collect on occasion... but not nearly as much as I used to. And I still have lots and lots and lots of ads I could sell on ebay; just not much time these days to list, monitor and ship them. Mostly I have old stuff to sell. The new stuff I usually just end up with one or maybe two. Lucky for me, my dad is a car buff, and James looks out for me too. I have the Playboy ad of the convertible, with the wrapper.

It's crazy to think how much I've spent on ads, and how many I sold!

Cathy, send me your wants list, I probably have a few of the newer ads you might be missing. We'll work a trade.

Having a network works well. Cathy got me some MINI stuff from her trips to the UK and Canada and I returned the favor by getting her some stuff from Germany.

I think Peter and I have made the first trade of the new forum. So it's working!

If anyone needs any ads listed from Smithsonian magazine, let me know. I have a good supply of those and will send out whatever I can find.

James

OK, I have checked January Motor Trend, January Maxium and Dec.31st Rolling Stone sucscription copies and there are NO MINI ads! What's up with that?! Has anyone seen any new ads recently?

MINIUSA just sent me out a Encyclopedia Of Open Motoring and a MINI Note talking about how a convertible is still great in the winter! Did anyone else get this?
