Cool Full Brembo brake kit

Category: Brakes
Price: $740
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (you may select multiples): R50, R52, R53, R55, R56, R57, R58, R59
Location (Region): Midwestern
Item Condition: Used

Probably its best brake kit you can find on the market for R50 – R52 – R53 )))

Brakes are used, but in ideal state. Mileage after full calipers rebuild and paint – 1250 miles. Discs and pads ran only about 3000 miles. No racing.

Caliper – 4piston Brembo, asymmetrical 42mm (1,65 inch) pistons for equable pads wear. Such calipers are installed on most powerful Alfa Romeo’s. Were fully serviced and painted by a fanatical mechanic.

Pad – same as in EVO / STI / Volvo S60 R/ Megane RS / Audi TT RS etc. Easier to find and buy ones than for a stock MINI. Many variants from cheap (about 40$) for road and up to hard racing compounds. Now are installed Ferodo, for road use, wear is 1,5 mm (0,05 inch). New Trusting (Italy) pads as a I gift.

Disc – from most powerful Alfa Romeo 166 or Lancia. Size 310x28mm (12,2x1,2 inch). Now installed TRW, no significant wear. A pair with shipping cost on Ebay 150$ and even taking into account the work of a motorshop for MINI adaptation its still cheap. More expensive, drilled or slotted, is possible to order – such cars are common in Europe.

Brake line – Goodridge, factory made as used for JCW R56

Mounts – made of stell, zink coated. All bolts are of strength class needed. Wheel spacers custom made to fit R53 stock rims, long wheel bolts included.

Weight – whole kit, both sides - 64,8 pounds.

- Nothing to be added for installation. Removed from my own R53, performed great.

- Comparing to factory JCW kits produce more brake power due to large pistons and wide pad. If BREMBO JCW R56 is 100% stopping power, than GP2 Brembo is 111,5%, this BREMBO kit - 116,5%.

Price – 800$

Shipping to US or Canada – 130$

Paypal payment as a gift

Alfa Romeo 166/Brera
Yes, they will. I'll check spacers hole size and write here. The only difference are wheel bolts between R53 and R56, to be changed

These would be nice if you can get them to work with the stock R56 JCW rotors instead of having to get custom drilled rotors every service. The JCW rotors are 316x22. Maybe a different bracket to give that extra 6mm? I wonder if the calipers have the same mounts as the JCW Brembo's and you can just source the OE JCW bracket?

I completely agree with you that for easy service R56 JCW discs are better. But such discs will kill tone of major advantages of this kit - cooling capacity. 28mm brake disc could provide normal ventilation instead of JCW. This kit was has good balance between normal daily (dustcoats on pistons) and track use - brakes are good enough even with standard pads.
Thought about two-piece brake discs for a standard rotors to perform easy maintenance. Stopped after discovering cost of spare parts))

Compared with JCW R56 brake rotor - 28 VS 22 mm:

I know the differences. I'm not just a MINI driver but an engineer :p
I look at it from a serviceability aspect. For just a normal daily driven car it is overkill but the rotors should last a while and provide great stopping power for emergencies on the road. For a tracked or auto-x MINI it would be nice due to the cooling. But for either, in the event of a catastrophic failure that needs immediate service, obtaining parts will be a pain.

Well, what can I say... I agree with you From my side I can only provide to a potential buyer another pair of discs ready to fit. So he will be ready to fast service. It will cost about 80$ for a pair + 70$ shipping
