If you can wait until I get back towards the end of May, you can get an idea via Scooter's modified exhaust, I run with my resonator because it is to loud without.

I almost forgot about this post! I think I'm just going to bit the bullet and do it, since it's cheap and, with flanges, easily reversible. Thanks again!

Did you end up doing it? I have an r56 s with jcw stage 1 and am really thinking about it. What do you think? I like the sound of it now just wish it was louder and had more crack and burble like the little monster it is but all the recordings I have ever heard always have terrible audio and no before and after vids/sound recordings.

If you could go back and do it again would you? And how do you like it on the highway and all that? ( assuming you got it done of course lol)

I ended up picking up Don's old exhaust, which I will initially run with a resonator as he's warned me it's quite loud under WOT without a resonator. I will likely remove the resonator (with flanges so I can swap in and out as desired) and then put the resonator back in and put the new muffler in. Since I work for an AV company, I will get out a recorder and some nice microphones to get a feel for what the difference in sound is at each stage.

Hey guys! Just got my resonator cut out on my 2007 MCS with Stage 1 JCW kit. here is a crappy video of the sound from in cabin before and after. MUCH MORE pop and crackle/ garble and a bit louder. I haven't driven it around too much yet (no highway yet), one of my girlfriends lives up a hill so I'm excited to go run up that a few times and get in a good listen. But a must have mod for all JCW owners and mini enthusiasts alike.

I went to my local muffler shop and was in and out in 15min. cost me like $32.40 or somethin. Also kept the resonator in case I didn't like it but Now I'll be looking for something to do with it lol.

WORTH IT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWM-Z...ature=youtu.be

Stupid question but I cant seem to find the answer. I am assuming the resonator and second cat are two different things?

I have it done, can't hear that much of a difference from inside the car unless you really get on it or have the windows down...but make no mistake, theres definitely a difference

@lowsid3r yes the resonator and 2nd cat are two different things. I chose only to delete the resonator and leave the 2nd cat in case the two in the DP aren't enough to pass emissions (which they might be, idk)

Alright(!), your youtube clip was just what I needed to commit to a resonator delete. The shop that did my 2.5" is only going to charge me $40. I am super psyched.

Your JCW didn't sound too much louder just a lot more raw. Me likey

Thank you for that clip.

Can you hear the turbo spool a little through the exhaust? I though I heard it a little in your clip. Wasn't sure though.

I can hear it a little better but I also have a K&N style cylinder filter in my JCW Airbox so it could be a combo of both.

I really enjoy the resonator delete I think every S model or JCW should have it done. The car sounds the same, just meaner. Same drone sound, same voice just way more agressive. It sounds even better when under stress, the video doesn't do it any justice compared to in person. My car turns a lot of heads now ( not that it didn't before ) but I passed a guy in a 911 turbo S and he gave me a thumbs up and said he liked the sound when we got to the stop light.

Best $40 You'll spend. I was really cautious about it at first but worth it for sure. Plus another $40 and they'll weld it back on if you don't like it.

Sorry about the delay, I was on vacation and refused to check my email lol

So for my follow up. I went and had the res removed and I was a little let down by the lack raw sound at first. Its louder but just as smooth sounding. I started her up on the lift and it was a little louder at idle but what I noticed was when the motor was under load she has a pretty good bark (sexy time!). I think the muffler I have just deadens the sound so much. It could also be that my exhaust is 2.5". 3" probably would have been better.

What diameter is your JCW's exhaust?

Nonetheless, $40 well spent!!

The JCW exhaust is 2.5 inch diameter.
Below is a link from alta talking about the difference between the JCW and the Alta exhaust. same diameters though. Sadly the JCW exhaust weighs 40 pounds compared to atlas 28 =[
