Gawd was that thing a hot mess! Fun to drive but it would have taken alotta work to get sorted --- I had a pocketful of cash money too because it was at the time I was searching for an R53.
Finally ended up finding a slicktop JCW in central Florida and drove down to get it.

it’s a little suspicious. As if someone had a small bumper bender and replaced it. At the same time Dark Silver was a S only color if I remember correctly so it would have had to have been painted before install. At the same time I know some people preferred the Justa front bumper to the S version.
also keep in mind $9950CAD is about $7k USD.

Read the ad claim on front bumper, small ding and crack $2100.00 Canadian. Any vehicles being sold in B.C. must state salvage on title if vehicle has previous total loss, you could lose your dealers license if they find you defrauding a title. Super low mileage 13000km is only 8000 miles!

That was a great find!
I was going to save the pictures this morning because it looks so good, but the listing is expired so I guess it sold.
You don't see too many Liquid Yellow R53's from the later years, especially with a slicktop in white.
Yellow has grown on me.
Here's a random pic of one found online...

This one is a bit highly priced but it really grabs my gonads, Chili Red slicktop with body color roof looks great, plus full Aero, and I prefer non-loaded poverty spec cars as well, only downside is navigation option box was ticked.

shame that dealers pull this **** when car sales are in the pits because of covid. Id never give my business to someone like this. If you dont know what the maintenance will cost then dont post a price in the first place.

Sadly that dealer is a joke, i wrote to them immediately the day they posted it and it was listed for 5k, they said it needed to be Inspected and suddenly the price went up 2k. They refused to honor the original price and claimed the price was adjusted because of the maintenance it needed. Cargurus even says its now 2k overpriced.

That sux.
Thanks for the info --- I agree that is some shady shid by the dealer. Bummer.

Yeah, but that is exactly everything I am looking for in a Mini! Argh! Even the wheels!!
#747
I hope the engine pic is from before the inspection and service. For $2K they couldn’t even detail the engine bay or replace a coolant tank that looks like it it will split on the next drive? Hard to tell from the low res pics, but it also looks like the paint is tired, there are scrapes or chips on the lip of the aero bumper, the tow hook cover is missing, and the hood scoop paint doesn’t match.
At a premium price the pics should show an immaculate car needing nothing at all. Details like that make you wonder what else was missed or what corners were cut.

Dealerships usually have good detail people, but rarely do they clean the engine bays it seems.
Some dealerships have decent photographers or at least contract it out, but most have pitiful pictures sadly.
Photography can make a huge difference in presentation.
A perfect example of contrast up on BaT right now...
...just today there was an R53 listed with beautiful photos - some of the shots are a bit too dark for my tastes, but still undeniably eye appealing nonetheless:

Those pix look like pro glam shots!
Contrast those pix with these which is running concurrently:

Although the BRG does get bonus points for plentiful and detailed pictures which is really more important anyway.

Personally, I prefer to see an engine bay that hasn't been detailed. I'd be wary of an older car that has a steam cleaned engine bay.

I prefer to see a car in as close to the condition the dealer received, showing how it was previously cared for. I also prefer a natural, clean condition and don’t like the detailing products most dealers use to make everything shiney and slick. Almost all of the used cars I have purchased were un-detailed which let me determine if I could bring it back to a condition I would be happy with within my budget. I also believe an un-detailed car gives more bargaining power during negotiations.
The pics above just convey a lack of attention to detail, care, or pride within the dealership itself, and make me wonder about the quality of work they did to the car prior to sale.
All that being said, those pics wouldn’t be an instant deal breaker at a premium price as there are many things to evaluate, and many ways to spin things.
