On the 05 hyper blue, you would think he’d know better and include the money shot, raises just a little suspicion, but if i were looking i would say good chance it is. no harm in asking.

I posted the 06 a week or two ago, I woulda thought someone scooped it up at that price, guess it depends on the issues. Not a JCW unless he preferred the MCS exhaust lol.

Yea.... sometimes a true under underappreciated gem pops up.

I've seen lots of aloofness or being 'put off' by a poor photo, bad description or omission of details spoil a sale or have people ask something like this......
...." How did that gem stay on the market for so long?" or "I didn't think much of it when I saw it first"

To the inquisitive go the spoils IMO...

Definitely, there are a lot of things that can cause one to immediately dismiss a car, but when I’m looking for something specific or hard to find I always dig deeper to see if the initial red flags are really non-issues or things which can be corrected with No lasting damage.

Good Deals on CL-te02y2p.png

That ebay listing is getting lotsa looks, seems like a good deal indeed, but as you say an inspection would be necessary --- I've been working in Anniston Alabama the last couple of weeks and going back there for several days this week so I'd be about an hour away from the car.

I actually kind of like the improper placement of the front JCW badge.

Good Deals on CL-f2emq7b.jpg

The AutoCheck vehicle history report in the listing is pretty cool...

Good Deals on CL-oivgqip.png

...originally sold in Ohio where the first owner kept it for 2.5 years, then went to Cali where it stayed for 13.5 years --- putting on my Sherlock cap for wild speculation, I'd reckon that the 2nd owner loved the car dearly and had the JCW kit installed, main clue is that particular valve cover...

...that along with the # would roughly date it to early 2005.

I posted about that run of "cracked" covers earlier in this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4571082

:

As a side note, some nice roads can be found in Alabama but too many damn dirt roads where you see some super squigglies on the map and then navigate to them only to discover that it's often unpaved, but otherwise still good fun.

I haven't had much recent luck with the boneyards,
but this just popped up on my alerts...

Good Deals on CL-x5q94d4.jpg

...near Tampa in Largo:

https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/loca...6-mini-cooper/

Too far for me at the moment, otherwise I'd go have a looksee.

Wheels look nice + aftermarket exhaust.

*edit:

wheel design appears to be Gram Lights 57DR:

would be killer if they are, but most likely knockoffs eh?
still worth checking just to see!

Aquablue steering wheel + clear acrylic shiftknob is a bit over-the-top for my tastes, but I still think it's cool that somebody took the time to mod...

Good Deals on CL-o7xpyty.jpg

...btw,
can anyone tell me what mod this is?

Oil cooler perhaps?

FMIC?

Good Deals on CL-9l0wdr0.jpg

Note the joey headlights.

That’s a nice find, I guess because it’s “the same model mark wahlberg drove in the Italian Job, they don’t need to list the mileage lol. At that price, probably 180k or more.

Curious -- has anyone ever found a nice quality deal at a buy-here pay-here used car lot?

I would typically dismiss those right away. I might miss out on something, but not worth the experience to me.

If you look hard enough, may be find a quality deal here or there, but if you miss a payment, you’ll be missing a car...real quick. Then you can buy it back when they put it back on their lot lol.

There’s an 05 S with 28k on it that’s just about to exceed $10k on BaT today. Looks like it has a scrape, scratch or chip on every body panel!

Saw that...crazy. That car could be found and bought here for $8500 in that condition. Judging by some of the comments, I believe there’s bidders on this car and some of the other average minis, that don’t really know much about the cars in general. Good for the sellers I guess. These are pretty much bottom of the barrel for BAT. The JCWs and GPs bring in a more knowledge crowd. I’d laugh if someone paid over $12k for it. Would have to be a newbie with deeper pockets than he deserves.

I guess a rising tide lifts all boats, but that NYC car is not clean. Those are city miles.

What if the boat was already sunk? Then the tide wouldn’t make a difference. And if a boat is sunk, is it still a boat since it can’t float? Lol (I know that quote has nothing to do with boats)

I’m amazed at what people pay for these cars on BaT. I could find a nicer car than that with the same miles for $5-6k.

pretty much cuz they don’t know any better. Being spontaneous doesn’t usually work out when buying cars. Hopefully they atleast rack up some miles on some nice roads in the burbs, cuz this one had 28k miles of city traffic, potholes, salt, weekend treks with bunches of luggage stuffed into it.
