Seems like a great deal if you are in the market for a coupe.

That’s an ok return on investment. Minus 15 years worth of looking after, and only driving it 20 miles per year. If this were listed in another 6 months, when hopefully the economy kicks in more, might hit $60k or more. I guess this makes JCWs even a better value.

Yep -- but driven by 3 competing bidders who desperately wanted it. That's all it takes.
I would not be buying this expecting to sell it for $60K in six months, lol.

There was a guy following this auction who paid $36K on BaT in May 2018 for a 14-mile 2006 JCW GP, had it serviced and has now put 4,500 miles on it. So he's both getting to enjoy it and watch it's value go up. Smart guy.

$56k... PLUS buyers premium (cost to buyer) ... People with too much money

It would be nice to see this set the trend.... for 15 years...
Purchase price including tax plus registration... Figure $33,600
Todays Value of that money. $43,600
Cost over 15 years to insure and register... figure $500/yr = $7,500.
Maintenance over that period of time $500.
================================
Sold for $56,000... less $99 seller fee, $250 photo fee... $55,650.00

Sales price today is $4400 over the cost of the car over 15yrs.
ROI = aprox 0.56% per year. ( actually a bit less when you factor in listing and photo fees, about half of one percent )

Cost to buyer that is not part of the value of the car.
$2,800.00 BAT buyers fee.... Sales tax probably in the ballpark of $2800 - $4480.... plus figure $1500 - $2500 for enclosed transport... registration fees.... $150... and the maintenance that this car will now need to preserve its value.... I'd say $1500.00 ... Total cost to buyer .... $64,750.00 - $67,430.00

So...To make any money on this car in the future for the seller... He better be making north of $65,000 - $68,000

Great to see sales go through the roof like this.. but really not a "Great Investment".... It does have the possibility to pull up values on exceptional unused cars like this 302 mile example. What will it do for the value of multi-thousands of other R53/56's as 'collector cars' in the future.... we'll see.
95% of the Minis that I've seen are 'user grade' or "daily drivers' that get washed with a brush and bucket 6 times per year.... and I've kept my eyes out for exceptional ones... if just to admire.

I hope the buyer loves the car... that is the reason to pay north of $60k for it !!

But you missed the satisfaction of seeing it in your garage every morning for a minute...I always factor that in. $1.00 per day.

I actually believe that the economy HAS kicked in for collector cars.... look at auction results for highly collectable cars ... and collateral purchases during those auctions of lesser cars that were brought up in value 'by association'

With less travel and less other ‘big-expenditures‘ (season passes for box seats, skyboxes, symphony, etc) ...there seems to be more money being spent on things like non essential cars, home remodeling etc...

The category of ‘stratospheric-value’ collector cars (Bugatti Atlantiques, 250GTO's, etc) really have not changed that much though... It's the mid priced cars in the $50k -$3m that have really seen a bump this past year IMO.

Update from a few weeks back:

1

Properly filthy but in one piece, my JCW from Nevada arrived in CT today. First impressions are much better than I had expected, it is in nice shape, has almost new Pilot Sport tires, new brakes, wheels are relatively clean with some curbing on one, suspension and shifting are nice and smooth. Front bumper cover gap is larger than it should be but no signs of an impact, hopefully that's adjustable.

I'm not in a rush to get it on the road so I am trying to pull together an extensive list of services to perform, hoping the timing chain isn't a required service at this point (83k miles), everything else I've seen seems straight forward enough. If anyone knows of comprehensive maintenance thread or list please share, this in my first r53. Thanks for posting this one, I can't get over the lack of rust!

Cleaning them up is half the fun...better than expected ALWAYS good. Looks like you scored. Let me know if you need a good R53 mechanic down that way.

I knew that 53 would make someone on here happy !

At that price... it would have had to have something catastrophic wrong for it not to be a great value for what it is.

Congrats !!

No rhyme or reason in these cars for sale.

Some go right away...others, like greystone's new ride sit unsold for a while.
