Are you the type that prefers a box of brake pads to fancy chocolates?

Would a dozen long-stem roses pale in comparison to a dozen gallons of 93 Octane?

If so, then get down/up to Deal's Gap and spend Valentine's Day with the one you truly love the most doing that thing you dream of doing day and night.

Yes that's right, we're talkin' 'bout some wintertime Dragon Slaying!

The Dragon doesn't care if you are a virgin or an experienced screamer, it'll grab hold of you, get your blood rushing, and leave you begging for more !

Speaking of navigators....does anyone have rally style notes to be read by the navigator while slaying the dragon?

after Thanksgiving till April
Fontana is the only one open in the mountains (unless you want to stay in Robinsville or Marysville)
the Crossroads of Time (gas pump & store) is closed, as well

more important since the Dragon is an active two way road
is having your Navigator give you a heads-up at whats coming towards you (you can seek-a-peek though the trees) RV's, Trailers, motorcycles, etc.)
but i'm sure you can write up "rally style notes" real easy, there's detailed maps available from the "Tail of the Dragon" on-line

Here is simplified map showing the key turns and areas to be lookin out for. It is not detailed enough to show every turn, but here are my simplified and abbreviated notes:

1)Accellerate through the top of 2nd gear
2)brake hard, hard left
3)Accellearate through the top of 2nd gear
4)brake hard, hard right
5)Repeat steps 1-4 159 times

Please note: this event is not sponsored, sanctioned, or organized by any official or unofficial organization, group, or individual. It is just an open invitation to come out and play

I'll be there in spirit with my Dragon-slaying pals! Wonder if the S's will snort steam through their bonnet nostrils like little dragons!?! Be sure to take lots of pix!

The one thing the map won’t give you is elevation. The road is a constant up and down. You’ll be coming up hill around a120 degree turn only to hit the apex and start dropping rapidly.

Good notes could only be made by driving the road a few times.

or is that a koolYucca Production?

Sorry about the map. It looks much better if you go to the Tail of the Dragon site and look at it there.

Anyone know a good source for high-performance studded snow/ice tires?:P

This is definitely a "weather permitting" trip. No refunds!

I'm watching the weather up there everyday Andrew. You don’t think we’ll have a problem getting a cabin at Fontana at the last minute do you?

found this warning at the Tail of the Dragon site
Tail of the Dragon site
"THE DRAGON Road conditions change daily during the winter. There are corners that stay damp/slick all day in the winter, especially Crud Corner. We have already had snow, so be ready for salt/sand on the road if conditions turn icy. Watch the weather closely if you want to try the Dragon in winter. It is at a lower elevation than many other roads, but road conditions are not ideal so SLOW DOWN. It is a good time for the cages (cars) to come and have the road to themselves"

Dragons taste so much better with plenty of salt!

For this joke event, the roads may be slippery. To increase rear wheel traction/downforce, try stuffing a pre-law college student in the boot. If you need poor legal advice concerning liability insurance, you can remove the duct tape from it's mouth
