Speaker Repair Question

I just bought an '06 MCS Cabrio and unfortunately the previous owner managed to damage the right rear speaker for the H/K audio system. I think I might be able to repair it but I don't know the best method to remove the speaker from the rear of the car. Is there anyone out there who has successfully removed one of these rear speakers?

Gary

It looks like it will not be easy or fun. You must remove this panel.

Unfortunately, CooperGear is correct; you have to remove the entire panel to access the speaker. On the bright side, to panel is not too difficult to remove: just pull out the three screws on the panel in the hatch area and CAREFULLY pull the panel away, working from the rear forward. Aside from the three screws, the panel is held in place with a handful of yellow plastic clips. Chances are, you will break some of the clips in the process, so pick up extras from the dealer.

After you've got the panel off, the speaker comes out with just a bit of persuasion. Remove the four retaining screws and pry the speaker out (there is a foam sealant around the edge). Once that's done, simply unplug the old, plug in the new, and mount the speaker. Finish mounting the panel described above and voila, new sound.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice! It's not at the top of my "to do" list, but I do plan on trying a repair or replacement later on.
