SIRIUS Install in a Cabrio - Antenna and bracket questions...
I've been reading some threads in here about installing a Sirrius XTR7CK in my 2005 Cooper S cabrio. Many threads say to place the Sirrius antenna next to the factory antenna, however that's not an option for me, since my antenna is above the windscreen and not in back on the roof.
I was considering just putting the antenna at the corner or center of the dash, close to the window glass. Will this be acceptable do you think?
Also, he antenna I got has about 12 feet of cable attached to it (no kidding) and I wonder of it can be/should be shortened, or if I should just tightly wrap the excess and tuck it into the dash?
SECOND, I wonder what mounting optopns people have used for the receiver unit? It came with a car kit and a window-glass suction cup kit, however I already have a Garmin GPS there. I was considering dissassembling the mount and attaching the end with the clip to a piece of metal. which I'd sandwitch under the down-tube. That way, the receiver would be down low, kind of near the stereo. where the driver or the passenger can reach it. Has anyone either built or bought a solution like this before?
Thanks in advance!

In my convertible I have the antenna for my Sirius Sportster in the center of the dash and close to the windscreen. I mounted it with a little square of velcro. I have had no problems with reception.
I mounted the radio under the center stack. I used velcro, once again, and am able to take it out to use in the house. I was able to route the cable behind the glove box, up the door trim molding, and across the track at the base of the windscreen. Excess is hidden behind the glovebox. I have the unit plugged into the cigarette lighter and the Aux input I installed right behind the unit. I did need a GLI when using the Sirius with the Aux. More info on that HERE.
Here is what it looks like:

Nice., but unfortunately, I can't mount the receiver under the stack like that - I'll be putting in a secondary switch box eventually there. I was considering sandwiching a plate between the down tube and the side of the stack as a mounting location...
Power-wise, I plan to use an Add-a-Circuit to power a secondary DC power source hidden in the knee bolster - I did this in my other car for my MP3 player and did not need to use a GLI, but I know what that is if I get audio weirdness.
Thanks for the info on the antenna!
